Deadrop Approved by Xbox
Midnight Society, known for its connection with Dr Disrespect, has hit a new milestone. Their game Deadrop, a vertical extraction shooter, has now been approved by Xbox. This follows their earlier success of becoming an official PlayStation partner. With developer accounts for both major consoles, Midnight Society is set to bring Deadrop to a wide audience.
Rich Cabrera, Director of Technical Product, shared the exciting news on Twitter. Almost a month ago, he posted an image of a Discord message revealing their PlayStation approval. Now, with Xbox on board, Deadrop is positioned for a major multi-platform launch. Gamers on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC will soon experience this Unreal Engine 5 title. This broad accessibility could attract a huge player base without needing to understand blockchain technologies.
One aspect that remains uncertain is the integration of Web3 features in the console versions of Deadrop. When PlayStation approval was announced, a Twitter/X user asked if it would be like blockchain games on Steam. Steam does not allow Web3 integration, requiring developers to offer a traditional gaming experience and handle blockchain aspects via an official website. Cabrera's response to this was "TBA, working that out." It will be interesting to see if Microsoft and Sony will allow blockchain integration directly on their consoles, unlike Valve, and more like Epic Games, which includes a warning on game store pages about blockchain integration.
Console Testing and Development
In their official Discord server, Studio Head Robert Bowling, also known as fourzerotwo, shared more details. He mentioned that their console outsourcing team has managed to get Deadrop running on Xbox Series X. The company plans to start internal console playtesting soon. Bowling also stated that the goal is to have playable builds available on both consoles simultaneously, "if we're able to successfully pass certification on both platforms in parallel."
With both Xbox and PlayStation approvals, Midnight Society is making significant strides in bringing Deadrop to the masses. The game is set to reach a broad audience, potentially bringing more gamers into the world of Web3 gaming. The integration of blockchain features remains a topic to watch, but the studio's progress so far is promising. Fans of Dr Disrespect and vertical extraction shooters have a lot to look forward to as Deadrop moves closer to its multi-platform release.
