Now, when President Trump was sworn in, all eyes in the industry were on how it would influence the use of cryptos and digital assets. Trading cryptos and regulating that trade are at the top of everyone's mind, but the administration will also affect the use of blockchain in gaming as a part of a broader pro-crypto policy.

In this article, we'll go over how the administration may affect the industry based on its public statements and on the already existing and growing trends in blockchain gaming.

The State of Blockchain Gaming

Blockchain gaming has been around since blockchain was first introduced. Some of the best crypto slot sites have been operating for over a decade. Gaming expanded beyond games of luck, and blockchain was used as an in-game purchasing system for traditional computer games.

The global blockchain gaming market was valued at approximately USD 4.6 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach around USD 65.7 billion by 2027. Most experts assess that there are over 37 million individual games playing blockchain games. About 800,000 new games get on board every quarter.

Trump's Approach to Blockchain and Crypto

The new administration is considered to be very pro-crypto compared to the previous one. This is noticeable in the fact that Trump has issued his own meme crypto coin, but also in the public policies that the new administration has announced. Such a libertarian approach to blockchain will affect gaming as well.

The main goal of such a policy is to lead to large-scale crypto adoption among citizens, investors, and any business where it's applicable. The same will happen in the world of blockchain gaming. It's expected that there will be many more such games and that the existing ones will expand in scale.

Industry Leaders

Co-founder of Sky Mavis (the company behind Axie Infinity), Jeffrey Zirlin, has claimed that Trump will affect the industry in the most positive manner. He specifically outlined token design as the area of blockchain gaming that will grow first and most rapidly.

"You want to experiment with all these ways of adding utility to tokens so that you can distribute tokens via the games and then have people who want to use and spend the tokens," Zirlin said.

Zirlin also came out in favor of the new craze for meme coins, as it will attract users who are interested in the speculative side of blockchain currency investing. Meme coins could also be widely used in gaming as both a crypto and an in-game currency.

The Issue of the Asian Market

Blockchain games have proven to be especially popular in the Asian markets. There's an existing gamer culture in many Asian countries, and the population is very tech-savvy and prone to quick adoption of new technology.

Chances are that the new administration will take a more hostile approach to China in terms of tariffs and sanctions. Therefore, the effects it may have on blockchain gaming won't extend to crypto games in China. It can, however, have an increased effect on players based in Malaysia and Singapore, which are the biggest blockchain gaming markets outside of China.

The Use of Tokens

Token classification is one of the most contentious issues within the blockchain community, especially in gaming. Tokens are used within and outside of games as currencies to exchange within the game, but their legal status once used to trade on the blockchain, remains dubious.

The main debate is whether to designate tokens used within games as utility tokens or as speculative assets, similar to cryptocurrencies. If they are seen as speculative assets, the regulations applying to crypto will also apply to in-game currencies. Trump's White House should provide clarity on this.

Promoting Decentralized Finance Systems

The new administration is also looking for ways to promote decentralized finance, including its use in the gaming industry. There are a few major innovations that the administration will push for and that the industry is especially excited about:

·         Further implementation of play-to-earn models.

·         Improving operability to allow seamless interactions between different gaming platforms.

·         Boost of investment in the blockchain industry.

To Sum Up

The new US administration is very crypto-friendly, and it tends to improve and better regulate the use of blockchain and cryptos in general. This will, among other things, affect the blockchain gaming industry. Blockchain gaming has been on the rise for years, and chances are that Trump's new approach will improve it further.

The leaders of the blockchain gaming industry have already expressed support for the new administration and outlined the main issue it's facing. These include regulating the use of crypto tokens within games and the expansion of decentralized finance to gaming. It's still not clear how the new tariffs implemented by the administration will affect blockchain gaming in China.
