Fantasy Top took over Crypto Twitter last week, drawing attention with its engaging gameplay and innovative use of NFTs. The game has seen a significant jump in player engagement, especially following its latest update, which brought several exciting features and changes.

Major Update Brings New Heroes and Tweaked Mechanics

Late last night, Fantasy Top's official Twitter announced a week packed with events and updates. The game introduced a reworked scoring system, a substantial prize pool, and a tournament designed for newcomers. The most notable addition, however, is over 40 new NFT heroes. These heroes include well-known figures like crypto-degen-turned-boxer Barneytheboi, founder of the Sappy Seals NFT collection wab.eth, and pseudonymous crypto investor LilMoonLambo.

In Fantasy Top, crypto influencers are transformed into NFT cards, known as heroes. These cards are built on the Ethereum layer-2 network Blast. Influencers receive a share of their cards’ trading volume and a portion of the total pack sale revenue. Players buy these cards to compete in fantasy football-style tournaments. The game’s innovative structure has captured the interest of the crypto community.

Over the past 24 hours, Fantasy Top’s trading volume increased by over 51%, with the number of buyers rising by 14%, according to DappRadar. Travis Bickle, the pseudonymous creator behind the game, reported that it has had 67,000 active users in the past week and 140,000 since its launch on May 1.

Soon after the game’s launch, influencers complained about players using bots to inflate their numbers. This was affecting their personal social media goals. Content creator Jenn Duong criticized these tactics. In response, Fantasy Top introduced a new scoring system to reduce the impact of bots. Original heroes had their stats adjusted, and frequent posts are no longer disadvantaged.

Upcoming Tournaments and Prize Pools

On Tuesday, May 14, the second main tournament will start, offering a prize pool of 333,333 Blast Gold. If analyst predictions about the value of Blast Gold are accurate, the prize pool could exceed $3.3 million, making it larger than the previous tournament. For players who aren't ready for the main competition, a “common cards only” tournament will take place on Thursday, May 16. This tournament will feature an undisclosed tweak to ensure fairness. The prize pool for this tournament has yet to be revealed.

Some NFT hero cards have begun to sell for impressive amounts. For example, a legendary Jenn card sold for 13.37 ETH (around $40,000), and a common Travis Bickle card sold for 0.49 ETH (approximately $1,495). These high valuations have contributed to a boost in the game's cumulative revenue, as shown on a Flipside Crypto dashboard.

Final Thoughts

Fantasy Top's recent updates and events have significantly increased its popularity on Crypto Twitter. With the addition of new NFT heroes, tweaked game mechanics, and enticing tournaments, the game continues to captivate the crypto community. As the game evolves, it will be interesting to see how it addresses challenges like bot activity and maintains fair competition among players.
