Axie Infinity Origin Hits iOS, Breaking through Apple’s Store Barrier

Axie Infinity, the popular collectible strategy NFT game, has announced the launch of its iOS version, Axie Infinity: Origin, expanding its availability to players in select Asian and LATAM countries.

While the worldwide release is still pending, gamers from selected countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Argentina, Colombia, and more will be among the first to experience the game on their Apple devices.

Axie Infinity Origin offers players a free-to-play experience in web3 gaming, allowing them to enjoy the game without upfront payments using non-NFT starter Axies. This approach enables players from even traditional web2 games to experience a frictionless beginner-friendly experience, thereby boosting mass adoption of NFT games.

The release of Axie Infinity Origin on the Apple App Store is a significant milestone for the game. It marks the first time that Apple has agreed to incorporate an externally-purchased NFT, making it usable on their platform. This move highlights the growing acceptance and integration of blockchain-based gaming into mainstream mobile app stores. Last year, Axie Infinity Origins became available on the Google Play Store in December 2022 following thorough testing by the Axie team. 

In this early version of Axie Infinity Origin, players have the option to utilize their existing NFT Axies or explore the game using upgradable starter Axies. While Moonshard crafting recipes will be available in-app, SLP crafting will require the desktop or Android APK version of the game.

It is important to note that while both Axie types can participate in Adventure and Arena modes, certain restrictions are currently in place on the App Store implementation. Following this release, Axie’s token, $AXS, jumps 12.6% in value.
