Uprising Labs, a multichain native yield Layer 2 blockchain, announced the launch of the web3 version of Maelstrom. Built on Oasys Layer 1 and backed by gaming giants like SEGA, Square Enix, and Bandai Namco, this release marks a significant step for the company. Uprising Labs is committed to frequent updates on Steam and web3-compatible game launchers.

Season 9 of the Ultimate End-gamers League (UEL) features Maelstrom, giving participants the opportunity to fight for a prize pool that surpasses $1 million. Up to $2,500 can be won by players each match. In collaboration with UEL, Uprising Labs, and Forthright Entertainment, gamers can dive into this free-to-play title on Steam. They’ll have the opportunity to compete against professional e-sports players and win various rewards, including in-game items and Uprising points.
CEO Eric Vander Wal highlighted this release as a pivotal moment for Uprising Labs. Accessible on several platforms, including Steam, since September 2019, Maelstrom presents an engrossing experience that combines tactical naval warfare and fantasy elements. Up to 16 players can participate in team-based or free-for-all multiplayer scenarios. The game offers an exciting test of skill and strategy.
In Maelstrom, players can also practice their abilities and collect treasure to upgrade their ship in the single-player mode. Gamers have the option of commanding a vessel as an orc, dwarf, or human. With the extensive customization options in the game, players can personalize the look, weaponry, and attributes of their spacecraft to fit their preferences.
Collaboration with Web2 Gaming Studio
This release marks the first collaboration between a blockchain-based studio and a Web2 gaming studio to enhance an existing title. Over the coming months, Uprising Labs will introduce new in-game features, updated graphics, and multiplayer modes with full web3 support. As the game moves into the testnet phase, more web3 features will be added, offering players a richer gaming experience.

Uprising Labs is positioned as the first multichain, native-yield gaming blockchain. Combining Oasys Layer 1 security with Avail’s DA layer, the platform provides economical gas fees. Users can earn a higher APY by staking Oasys tokens with Layer 1 validators, including companies like Sega and Ubisoft. Uprising Labs plans to support additional blockchains, allowing players to stake and play simultaneously.
The web3 version of Maelstrom will introduce players to new gameplay dimensions. Players can engage with the web3 ecosystem by earning, trading, and upgrading digital assets. This adds a new layer of ownership and value to their gaming experience. Uprising Labs is focused on using its blockchain-based capabilities to give players true ownership of their in-game achievements.
Forthright Entertainment's Ryan Waller expressed excitement about the collaboration with Uprising Labs. Through this relationship, Maelstrom will be able to reach a wider audience and improve the game experience. As they venture into new territories together, players of all experience levels have a lot to look forward to.
On August 23, 2024, the Maelstrom competition in association with UEL is scheduled to begin. It will be available for the Steam version of the game and will run for two days. Players will compete to sink the most ships, with winners receiving prizes including up to $2,500 per game, in-game gold, and Uprising web3 points.
