Universal Studios, the American media conglomerate known for its extensive intellectual property portfolio of video games and pop culture icons, is looking at ways to implement non-fungible token (NFT) technology into some of its future video game and NFT game releases in theme parks, according to recent patents.
The patent application titled "Systems and Methods for Customized Non-Fungible Tokens Corresponding to an Amusement Park Attraction" was recently published on January 26, 2023, and filed in July of last year.
Patent Details
The patent details the implementation of NFTs from their video game IPs into real-world activities such as amusement parks. Universal Studios currently holds three theme parks - Universal Studios Florida, Universal's Islands of Adventure, and Universal's Volcano Bay water theme park. If the NFT integration goes well, it could potentially mean massive profits for the corporation.
The use of NFTs in this context shows a potentially new and interesting way in which the technology can be used, beyond its current applications. Powerful intellectual properties such as the Harry Potter franchise may significantly propel the adoption of NFTs, considering the recent success of the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy RPG game in the gaming industry.
It remains to be seen whether Universal Studios will actually use NFTs or blockchain technology at any of its amusement parks. If they do, it will bring a whole new level of customization to the theme park experience, allowing visitors to create lasting memories of their visit. For example, visitors could engage in park mini-games and then receive an NFT that could be later used in NFT games such as a powerup or in-game cosmetic.
In Universal Studios' case, patrons could potentially get an NFT wand for a blockchain-based Harry Potter game.
Final Thoughts
Implementing NFTs in this context opens up exciting new possibilities for the entertainment industry, not just for Universal Studios, but for other companies as well. As the technology continues to evolve, we'll see more and more innovative uses for NFTs, and perhaps even a new level of interactivity and customization in the theme park experience.
Regardless of what happens, it will be interesting to see how this plays out and what impact NFTs will have on the industry in the coming years. You can learn more about the top NFT games currently by visiting our page. Stay tuned for more NFT game news!
