SuperGaming Responds to Web3 Conjecture
SuperGaming, the developer of the battle royale game Indus, recently responded to rumors about potential web3 elements in the game. This came after a leaked "Web3 Development Timeline" suggested NFT drops, a token launch, and blockchain partnerships. The company clarified that these details do not represent an official announcement.

SuperGaming stated that the leaked timeline was not an official announcement. It appeared as part of a third-party publishing proposal, not something the company shared on Discord. The company explained that the information shown in the leak was just one of many tabs open during a live session. While SuperGaming has explored various emerging technologies, including blockchain, the slide in question came from an external publishing proposal among many others.
The company confirmed that there are no current plans to integrate web3 into Indus. Its main priority remains delivering a great gaming experience. SuperGaming also assured that any major developments related to Indus will be announced officially. As a result, any previously reported launch timelines for Indus, both in India and globally, are unconfirmed. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement regarding the release date.
Alleged Web3 Development Timeline
The controversy started when a screenshot of an alleged web3 timeline surfaced. According to reports, it was shared on June 6, 2024, at the "IndusOG Birthday Celebrations" event on Indus Discord. The timeline included several milestones, such as the Indus Creator Tournament in August 2023, the "Cosmium Clutch" esports tournament in November 2023, and the start of a closed beta in January 2024.
The timeline also mentioned potential blockchain partnerships, an NFT marketplace announcement in October 2024, and a future NFT store and token launch. Although SuperGaming has denied these plans, the inclusion of blockchain-related milestones raised concerns among players. This is especially true since the company has previously stated that Indus is not a web3 game.

Despite denying web3 integration in Indus, some believe SuperGaming’s past ties to blockchain and crypto investments add to the speculation. The company has received backing from investors like Fourth Revolution Capital and Infinity Ventures Crypto.
CEO Roby John has also engaged with web3-focused platforms like Ryze Labs, discussing blockchain gaming opportunities. In 2022, SuperGaming partnered with WazirX co-founder Siddharth Menon to develop Tegro, a crypto marketplace for web3 games. However, the partnership ended within months.
SuperGaming has not fully distanced itself from blockchain technology. Although Indus remains a non-web3 game, the company has maintained industry relationships with blockchain-focused investors. Some gaming analysts believe this could mean that SuperGaming is keeping its options open for future projects that may include blockchain elements. However, as of now, Indus remains a traditional battle royale game.
Many players have expressed mixed reactions regarding the leaked timeline and the company's response. Some gamers appreciate SuperGaming’s clarification and commitment to keeping Indus a traditional game, while others remain skeptical. In the gaming community, the continuous conjecture has sparked debates about whether web3 components belong in popular games.
Decentralized economies and player-owned assets are two ways that blockchain technology, according to a number of industry experts, could improve gaming. However, others worry that NFTs and tokens could introduce unnecessary complexity and potential financial risks. SuperGaming’s decision to stay away from web3 for Indus aligns with the preferences of players who prefer traditional gaming experiences.
SuperGaming has not yet confirmed any launch dates or provided any other information regarding the purported web3 plans. Until a formal declaration is released, rumors will probably persist. For now, fans can only wait to see if Indus will include any web3 elements in the future.
In the meantime, SuperGaming continues to focus on refining Indus and engaging with the community. To keep users updated on the game's progress, the firm has pledged to openly release significant updates. It's unclear how SuperGaming will handle new technology in the upcoming years given how quickly the gaming industry is changing.
