The popular strategy NFT card game Splinterlands is expanding its world with the introduction of its land expansion program. In this exciting new update, players will be able to redeem their land tokens for individual, unsurveyed land deed non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which will grant them ownership of a specific plot of land within the game’s world of Praetoria. These NFTs represent a guaranteed plot on the map of Praetoria, and will include the continent name, territory name, region number, tract number, and plot number.

The first phase of the Splinterlands land expansion is set to begin on Tuesday, December 13th, 2022, after the regularly scheduled maintenance is completed. The next phase of the land expansion is expected to be released in early 2023, and will allow players to survey their land deeds and uncover information about the terrain, rarity, resources, and special buildings available on their plots.

Claiming Deeds

In order to claim land in Praetoria, players must convert their existing REGION, TRACT, or PLOT tokens into Unsurveyed Deeds. For example, claiming a region will yield 1,000 consecutive plots all contained in a single region, while claiming a tract will yield 100 consecutive plots in a single tract. Claiming a plot will grant a single plot. Land claim redemption will start with region 001 in the Pristine Northwest (PNW) region of the map and will continue in consecutive order until all 150 regions have been claimed.

When a REGION token is redeemed, the algorithm will find the first completely empty region and mark it as claimed, generating 1,000 deeds in the process. The same process will occur for TRACT and PLOT tokens, but on a smaller scale. Multiple tokens of the same type can be redeemed in a single transaction. For example, if a player claims 50 PLOT tokens, the next 50 available plot deeds will be assigned to them.

Players will be able to see the next available region, tract, and plot for claiming on the land claim redemption screen. However, it is not guaranteed that players will receive plots in that specific location, as many players may submit redemptions at the same time and they will be processed in the order they appear on the blockchain. The same as with land claim tokens, land deed NFTs will be qualified for SPS rewards.

Open Market Details

The market for land deeds is expected to go live early next year, and will provide players with a place to buy and sell their land deeds. In the meantime, players can hold onto their land tokens and redeem them for deeds at a later date. It is important to note that land claim tokens and land deeds are not interchangeable, and cannot be used in place of each other.

Players who have already claimed land through the land expansion program will not be affected by this update and can continue to enjoy their land and rewards. New players who are interested in participating in the land expansion program can learn more on the Splinterlands website.

Wrapping up

The release of the land expansion program and the ability to redeem land claim tokens for deeds is a highly anticipated event for the Splinterlands community. The introduction of NFTs and the potential for players to survey and develop their own plots of land adds a new level of strategy and engagement to the game.
