Popular NFT turn-based RPG, Axie Infinity: Origins, has given a sneak peek into new customizations for players in the coming season 2. Runes and Charms are a staple within the Axie Infinity gameplay since it provides players with diverse ways to deal with opponents by applying passive buffs that boost damage or defense.
The Axie team revealed the addition of bird runes and charms on Twitter, notifying its players of the possible META changes in the coming new season. In Origins, Axies can only equip a single rune while charms can be used up to six times. Applying these in-game items potentially enhances a user’s fighting capabilities, increasing either its attack or damage.
Bird Runes
Bird Runes apply special enhancements to Axies. They let players apply a passive buff to their Axies, giving them a unique effect that grants them an advantage while in battle. Depending on which Rune you choose to equip, it will either boost its attack or increase its defense.

Many of the teased Runes added to the game deal an increase in ATK damage, making bird-type Axies a potential threat against other types. Remember that these Runes can only be attached to bird-type Axies.
Bird Charms
The announcement revealed eight bird Charms coming into the next season. Charms will also apply a passive effect if equipped to your Axie with each effect depending on which charm you currently are using. The new bird Charms bear a similar resemblance to the Beast Charm’s effect but vary in specific effects.

Some bird Charms such as the Charm of Focus give more points compared to Beast Charm. However, for Charm of Power, the beast Charm has a higher ATK point allocated compared to the bird Charm.
Certain bird Charms also apply a specific effect rather than boosting one's attack or defense like a Weak effect such as the Flamingo Hammer bird Charm. For those that forgot, Weak applies a 20% less attack DMG making it a favorable effect when you're about to take huge damage
