Splitgate 2 Steps Back to Move Forward

Splitgate 2 is going back to beta. 1047 Games shared the news in a message to fans, saying the game didn’t live up to expectations. They admitted the release came too early. The excitement to launch took over, and the result was a game that felt unfinished. Many players were disappointed. The team now wants to rebuild the game and bring it back to what made the original Splitgate fun and different.

The team behind Splitgate 2 says they rushed the release. In their own words, they “bit off more than [they] could chew.” Key systems were not ready. Progression felt weak. Monetization confused players. Game modes fans loved were missing or changed too much. The reaction from the community made it clear: the sequel didn’t deliver. This honest response from 1047 Games shows they’ve listened and are ready to fix things.

The game is now entering a full beta phase again. Almost everything in the game will get updates. Progression will be rebuilt from the ground up. Maps will be redesigned with more portals, staying true to the unique feel of the original Splitgate. Monetization will be simpler and more clear. Fan-favorite game modes are also making a return. 1047 Games promised more updates in the future and wants to be open with their plans moving forward.

One of the biggest changes is how much the team will involve the community. The studio is going back to its original style of development: open, honest, and player-focused. They plan to hold more playtests. More surveys will be shared. Feedback will guide each big decision. The goal is to blend the best parts of both Splitgate and Splitgate 2. This rebuild will take time, but the team says it’s worth doing right.

This shift comes with real challenges. To make space for the rebuild, the studio had to let go of several team members. 1047 Games called this a “heartbreaking” decision. They’re offering support, like severance and help with job placement. There’s hope some of these developers can return when the team is ready.

Another step is shutting down the original Splitgate servers in about a month. The cost to keep them running is too high. The studio says it has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years. To keep as many developers as possible, this cost had to go. However, they are looking into offline or peer-to-peer modes, so fans of the original can still play in some form.

Splitgate 2 Still Available to Play

Even though the game is going back to beta, players can still play Splitgate 2. Chapter 3 is still coming. Bug fixes and urgent updates will continue. 1047 Games wants players to keep playing, testing, and giving feedback. This process is a two-way street. The more the community shares, the better the game can become.

Splitgate began as a small project in a college dorm. Over time, it grew into a hit shooter with a loyal fanbase. That spark is still there. The team now understands what went wrong and how to move forward. This beta is not the end. It’s a reset. 1047 Games says they are not giving up on Splitgate 2. They believe in the game and the players. Now, they’re putting in the work to make it shine.
