Overview of Splinterlands

Splinterlands is a web-based trading card game built using the Hive blockchain. The game uses Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) as the main money and Splintershards (SPS) as the governance token, allowing players to earn prizes while playing. The gameplay combines deck-building and auto-battling. Players set up their combat lineups based on the match rules, and the game automatically plays out the battle. Victory goes to the last team standing. Every two weeks, players receive rewards in Glint currency, which can be used to buy cards and other in-game items. The top 50 players in each season also earn DEC tokens.

Splinterlands is making big changes to its Voucher system starting August 15th. These changes come after a community proposal in July. One key update is the integration of Voucher rewards from Validator and SPS staking into the game’s economy. This will make it easier for players by eliminating the need for separate transactions to convert rewards. Additionally, trading Vouchers on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) like Tribaldex and Hive Engine will no longer be allowed. The goal is to centralize trading within the game and comply with regulations. Vouchers used for discounts on Validator licenses will be phased out, shifting more focus on DEC. Players will still have until August 31st to use Vouchers for certain purchases.

More changes are coming on September 3rd. These include the launch of an in-game DEC/Voucher liquidity pool, a new Voucher Store, and a burn tax on Voucher transfers. The Splinterstorm Skin Shop will also close, so players should make their final purchases before then.

Community Engagement

Splinterlands values its community and is actively seeking player feedback to guide future updates. There are several polls open right now where players can share their opinions on topics like win trading policies, tournament formats, and entry fees. This shows the game’s commitment to listening to its players and making changes based on their preferences.

Along with the Voucher system changes, Splinterlands is expanding its Rebellion set on August 15th. This expansion will bring 43 new cards with unique abilities. Players who own Chaos Legion soulbound reward cards will also have the option to unbind them, making them tradeable.
