SonicX Reaches One Million Players on TikTok
Recently, the tap-to-earn game SonicX celebrated a significant milestone: it reached a million users in the initial week on TikTok. This significant achievement demonstrates the game's explosive growth and portends exciting prospects as the team gets ready to launch a token. Building on this momentum, SonicX is poised to make even greater strides.

Originally, tap-to-earn games were popular on Telegram, a platform that supports mini-apps and has native wallet integration via The Open Network (TON). Now, Sonic SVM, a Solana-based project, has adapted the genre for TikTok, creating SonicX to reach a wider audience. By introducing this tap-to-earn game to TikTok, Sonic SVM has expanded access to a vast user base and brought fresh energy to the genre.
In SonicX, players earn in-game points by tapping on their screens, all within a mini-app that launches directly through TikTok. The game features artwork inspired by classic characters but has no official affiliations. Over the past month, SonicX has gained popularity by actively advertising to new users. These campaigns were a major factor in helping the game hit one million players so quickly.
The SonicX team implemented an extensive advertising strategy that has generated millions of views on TikTok, drawing a significant number of active players. This strategy has been effective, with internal data confirming the game’s growth. These advertising efforts are a crucial part of the team’s goal to build a dedicated user base, helping the game maintain its momentum as it heads toward a new phase.
Upcoming Token Generation Event (TGE)
SonicX has more updates in store for players, including an anticipated token generation event (TGE). The team announced that the game would remain in a “mining phase” until the TGE, expected either in late 2024 or early 2025. This mining phase tracks players’ progress, which may count toward future rewards. The TGE will introduce a unique reward mechanism to add depth to SonicX’s in-game economy, setting it apart from other tap-to-earn games.
During this mining phase, SonicX may take a snapshot of player progress, opening the door to future token rewards through an airdrop. While the team hasn’t confirmed specific details, the snapshot approach would allow active players to earn tokens, adding an exciting element to their gameplay experience. For now, players can continue enjoying in-game rewards while looking forward to the token launch.

While one million players is a significant achievement, SonicX’s player base is still smaller than that of some popular games on Telegram, such as Hamster Kombat, which reported 300 million users. However, SonicX may have a strategic advantage with TikTok’s verification requirements. With phone numbers and KYC (know your customer) checks in place, TikTok attracts a more dedicated audience. The team believes this verification helps bring in “higher quality” players who are more likely to engage in the game long-term.
One challenge in the tap-to-earn space is keeping players engaged after reward events, such as airdrops. Games on Telegram, including Hamster Kombat, have sometimes struggled with player drop-off after these events. To counter this, SonicX plans to function as an “app layer” on TikTok. This approach means SonicX won’t just be a single game but a platform that allows other games to integrate within it, giving players ongoing reasons to return.
By positioning itself as a platform, SonicX opens the door to partnerships with other games, offering users more choices within the TikTok environment. This model is similar to how Telegram’s Notcoin collaborated with games like Flappy Bird to expand its offerings. SonicX’s vision is to bring other games into its TikTok app layer, providing players with varied experiences and creating a new distribution option for game developers looking to reach TikTok’s massive audience.
