The well-known video game streamer and co-founder of Midnight Society, Dr. Disrespect, and the studio parted ways three months ago. Allegations that Dr. Disrespect had inappropriately communicated with a youngster led to the decision being made. Dr. Disrespect then withdrew his first admission of guilt over the claims.
Robert Bowling, the internet persona known as Fourzerotwo, who co-founded the studio, spoke about the layoffs in a recent NFT-gated Discord channel. Bowling mentioned that the studio faced multiple unexpected challenges in recent months, which led to the difficult decision to reduce the workforce. The precise count of impacted workers remains undisclosed.
Dr. Disrespect, who returned to streaming on Friday with a YouTube video titled “The Truth,” revealed the studio’s decision to cut its workforce. He attributed the layoffs to Cody Conners, a former Twitch employee who had brought up the old allegations against him. Dr. Disrespect claimed that his admission was a tactic to provoke media coverage.
Midnight Society's Position
Despite the layoffs, Bowling assured fans that Midnight Society is still on track to launch Deadrop in 2025. He mentioned that revised plans and milestones for the game will be shared soon. Bowling clarified that decisions made by the studio were based on internal considerations, not influenced by external comments or allegations.

He emphasized the studio's commitment to focusing on the game’s development.
