Project Tau Ceti: A New Sci-Fi Shooter Unveiled

Parallel Studios, creators of the Ethereum NFT card game Parallel, are expanding into a new genre with their latest project, a 3D first-person shooter codenamed "Project Tau Ceti." Announced at Token2049 in Singapore, this new game brings a fresh take to the Parallel universe. Players will navigate a sci-fi planet and engage in battles using their Parallel NFT avatars. The team’s goal is to build an immersive experience that sets the stage for a new gaming journey.

Unlike Parallel’s upcoming AI-centric game Colony, which will launch on Solana, Project Tau Ceti is tied to the Base network. This project returns to Ethereum’s layer-2 solution, utilizing the newly launched B3 layer-3 gaming network. The decision to choose B3 is grounded in its strong focus on gaming and its capable team. According to a Parallel Studios spokesperson, “B3 has the right mixture of technology and team experience to support what we’re looking for."

B3.fun: The Next Big Thing in Blockchain Gaming

B3.fun, a platform launched in August, is home to Project Tau Ceti. Built by NFC Labs—a team of former Coinbase employees—the platform has already raised $21 million in investment and launched BSMNT, a web-based crypto arcade. With this backing, B3 is positioning itself as a key player in the future of blockchain gaming, and Project Tau Ceti will be one of its flagship titles.

Parallel is no stranger to the world of gaming, having already made a name with its Ethereum-based card battler that rivals games like Hearthstone. What makes Parallel unique is its use of NFT cards, which can be traded and collected. Players also have the chance to earn crypto tokens while enjoying the game. Project Tau Ceti, however, is an entirely different kind of game, designed to broaden the scope of the Parallel universe.

The idea for Project Tau Ceti didn’t start as a full-fledged game. The original concept for a shooter set in the Parallel universe was created by the Parallel art team. However, a resoundingly favorable response from the community allowed what started out as a side project to grow into something much more. In order to improve the Parallel universe, the crew has now committed to developing new settings, people, foes, and animals.

Unreal Engine 5, one of the most sophisticated game engines on the market right now, will be used by Project Tau Ceti. To create a new, immersive experience, the game will incorporate 3D assets—such as characters and weapons—from Parallel's current catalog. An unidentified third-party studio will also be crucial to the game's development.

Although anticipation for Project Tau Ceti is growing, the game is still in its early phases. The game will go into alpha testing in 2025, with a PC first release planned. Future iterations of the game may come to mobile and console platforms, according an interview on OpenSea. Parallel Studios will keep concentrating on updating its current card game and advancing Colony's Alpha release in the interim.

Parallel Studios is taking a risk by launching Project Tau Ceti. With the release of this new first-person shooter, the studio is able to experiment with new genres and expand its creative reach. It marks a thrilling new chapter for the Parallel universe's participants and supporters.
