Insights from Gunzilla Games
Vlad Korolov, co-founder and CEO of Gunzilla Games, expressed his excitement for the project. He stated that with the upcoming public launch of 'Off the Grid' and the GUNZ token, they are setting a new standard in both AAA gaming and the blockchain space. Korolov’s vision reflects the company's dedication to innovation in the web3 gaming industry. Gunzilla Games has spent more than four years developing Off The Grid, raising over $100 million to bring this ambitious project to life. Despite the successful playtest, the official launch date has not yet been announced.
Gunzilla Games has also launched a test network for Gunz, an Avalanche-based blockchain subnet. Along with this, the studio released Technocore, a companion game in which players can find things transferred to NFTs on Gunzilla's marketplace. Korolov mentioned that they chose Avalanche because no other chain could support the wide-ranging blockchain features they needed for the game.
Off The Grid will be available for PC via the Epic Games Store, as well as on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles. The game features multiplayer matches on Teardrop Island, a sci-fi setting with both player-vs-player (PVP) and player-vs-environment (PVE) conflicts. The island has many unique points of interest, ensuring that gameplay remains engaging and dynamic.
Korolov highlighted the challenge of keeping players engaged in the era of TikTok, where even waiting a few minutes for action can be seen as boring. He emphasized that they’ve worked hard over the last four years to create a world that will never bore users. This reflects the broader challenge faced by developers of multiplayer battle royale (BR) titles in keeping modern gamers hooked.
Final Thoughts
The completion of this playtest demonstrates the growing potential for blockchain games on major gaming consoles. As blockchain technology advances in the gaming industry, Off The Grid stands out as a pioneering example of how traditional gaming experiences may be combined with decentralized technologies. The game's imminent release is highly anticipated by both blockchain enthusiasts and the larger gaming community.
