Moonray Coming to PlayStation 5
The developers of Moonray, an Ethereum-based fighting arena game, have confirmed that it would be available on PlayStation 5 next year. Due to Sony's regulations, the PS5 version will not include any Web3 functionality at launch. These features include things like crypto and NFT integrations, which are currently a part of Moonray’s PC and mobile versions.

On PC, Moonray has already run successful play-to-airdrop campaigns through the Epic Games Store. These campaigns allowed players to complete challenges and earn MNRY tokens. Furthermore, gamers who owned the game's NFTs received additional incentives. The smartphone version of the game, which is expected to be published the following year, will follow a similar approach. These Web3 features won't initially be available to PlayStation 5 players, either.
A Moonray spokesperson explained that each platform has its own set of rules and conditions. Since Sony's policies differ from those of PC or mobile platforms, the PS5 version will not include any Web3 features at launch.
At first, Moonray was released as a metaverse role-playing game based on Stacks, the layer-2 network of Bitcoin. But it changed its name to an Ethereum-based competitive multiplayer battler. The concept is still the same: a post-human world where people battle in arenas using swords, weapons, and abilities, even if the game's structure has changed.
Bringing Moonray to PlayStation 5 opens up additional opportunities for the game to reach a larger audience. However, the game's basic crypto capabilities, which were key to its original launch, will not be included in the initial console edition.

The conversation around how to reach a broad gaming audience is crucial for Web3 gaming, according to Moonray’s developers. Consoles like the PS5 are important platforms for reaching more players, but the integration of crypto elements poses unique challenges.
Last week, another crypto game, Off the Grid, launched on PS5, Xbox, and PC. Built on Avalanche, the battle royale shooter saw significant demand, especially on the PC platform. However, while the game’s gripping gameplay and viral moments drew in players, its crypto integration remains incomplete.
Off the Grid's Crypto Integration Still in Progress
Off the Grid developer Gunzilla Games is still working on its Avalanche-based L1 chain, also known as a subnet. The system is in the testing phase, and some in-game transactions are happening behind the scenes. However, key elements like NFT integration and the game’s GUN token are not yet live. Gunzilla Games has kept the specifics of these features under wraps for now, citing competitive pressures as the reason for maintaining confidentiality.
Gunzilla wants to focus on delivering a high-quality gaming experience to its primary audience—traditional gamers—before unveiling the game’s crypto mechanics.
The success of Off the Grid has sparked excitement around crypto gaming on consoles, but the uncertainty surrounding how these features will be implemented has left fans eager for more information. There is no official release date for Moonray on PS5, however the development team has begun converting the game from PC to console. They expect to begin testing in the second half of 2025, however it is unclear whether this will be a public or private phase.
