Expanding Moonray’s Ecosystem to Mobile

Moonray, the Ethereum-based multiplayer battle game, is expanding beyond its initial PC release to mobile. Available in Early Access on the Epic Games Store, Moonray is backed by major web3 investors like Animoca Brands, Polygon Ventures, and Cardano. By moving to mobile, Moonray aims to reach a wider audience and deepen connections within the web3 gaming space.

Moonray, which debuted in July on the Epic Games Store, is a science fiction game set in a far-off post-human planet with intense combat. The game's fast-paced melee combat, which is simple to learn but difficult to master, appeals to both casual gamers and professional esports players. This new mobile expansion will bring Moonray’s unique experience to an even larger player base. The game integrates both traditional and web3 gaming elements on a single platform, responding to the demand for web3 gaming on accessible devices. According to Hans Andersson, CBO and founder of Moonray, the expansion for mobile represents a chance to grow their community and deliver a quality science-fiction battle game to more players.

Alongside its mobile expansion, Moonray Studios is broadening its intellectual property (IP) through partnerships and cross-media projects. Founded in 2021, Moonray Studios quickly secured partnerships to help grow its IP, including collaboration with Reel FX, a well-known animation studio, to develop an animated series based on Moonray. This series will expand the game’s characters and story, appealing to new fans. Additionally, Moonray released a graphic novel, Mother’s Skin, available in major North American and UK stores like Barnes & Noble and Midtown Comics. These expansions into graphic novels and animated content help strengthen Moonray’s IP and increase its appeal beyond traditional gaming formats.

Blending Traditional and Blockchain Gaming

Moonray includes optional web3 features, allowing interested players to interact with blockchain elements while offering a traditional experience to those who prefer it. Optional blockchain elements, like token purchases and wallet connectivity, allow Moonray to serve a wide range of players—from crypto enthusiasts to mainstream gamers. By combining conventional gameplay with optional web3 features, Moonray bridges traditional and blockchain gaming experiences. Moonray is bridging the gap between these two gaming worlds by delivering web3 alternatives for some players and a barrier-free experience for traditional players, said Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands.

Animoca Brands spearheaded a $3.5 million seed round for Moonray in 2021, establishing the company in the web3 ecosystem. Known for its extensive blockchain and gaming portfolio, Animoca Brands supports projects advocating for digital property rights and decentralized play experiences. Their investment reflects a broader vision to build an open metaverse. Other investors like Polygon Ventures and Cardano have been key supporters as well, enabling Moonray’s expansion into new formats, including mobile. These partnerships emphasize the strong industry support for Moonray’s strategy to integrate blockchain with traditional gaming.

The Miium Foundation, developer of the MNRY protocol, plays a key role in supporting Moonray’s growth and cross-platform potential. The MNRY protocol allows smooth blockchain integration across PC and mobile, giving players new ways to experience games. With the upcoming mobile release, Moonray’s team is working on creating a cohesive, cross-platform experience for their player base.

Final Thoughts

As Moonray prepares for its mobile release, the team focuses on expanding its reach and accessibility. In addition to PC and mobile, Moonray plans to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2025. The game’s alpha version remains available on the Epic Games Store, and the upcoming mobile release is expected to attract new players and deepen engagement.
