MetaGreen: The First Green Metropolis in the Metaverse Launches in The Sandbox

In a major development for the virtual world of The Sandbox, Regal Hotels Group has announced the launch of MetaGreen, the first green metropolis in the metaverse. The eco-friendly event, which takes place from January 12 to February 28, 2023, aims to promote sustainability and build a rich green ecosystem with a variety of interactive monuments.

In partnership with leading strategic partners, including Hang Seng Bank, UOB Hong Kong, City Super Group, and The Mills, MetaGreen will include an array of eco-friendly facilities, such as a green hotel, a shopping mall, an art park, and a green open space for performances. In celebration of the Year of the Rabbit, the experience aims to encourage environmentally beneficial decisions and cultivate a sustainable society to support a circular economy.

One of the highlights of MetaGreen is the Regal Hotels eco-friendly hotel, which uses wind turbines to generate energy for the cooling system. Through gaming, players can connect with various NPCs to learn about green strategies including farm-to-table dining, sustainable wellness, and energy conservation.

Furthermore, Hang Seng Bank is opening its Metaverse Branch in MetaGreen, a fun platform that informs the public about ESG investments. To display the winning works of the UOB Art in Ink Awards in the categories of abstract and landscape or figurative, UOB Hong Kong and UOB Art Academy have also created the UOB Art Space in MetaGreen’s Art Park. Players are encouraged to see and buy NFT artwork produced by UOB Art in Ink Award winners as well as assist non-player characters (NPCs) in locating a lost piece of art.
