Every 24 Hours on Pump.fun, 10,417 Tokens Are Launched while 9,912 Become Defunct

The world of memecoins is explosive, unpredictable, and brutal. Nowhere is this more evident than on Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin launchpad that has become a hub for fast-paced crypto experiments. However, the vast majority of these memecoins are doomed from the start. To examine the reality of the memecoin ecosystem, we analyzed almost 970,000 Pump.fun projects. Let’s get into details!

Key Findings

  1. 98% of memecoins on pump.fun fail to survive longer than 3 months.
  2. Every 24 hours, 10,417 tokens are launched and 9,912 become defunct on Pump.fun.
  3. Average lifespan of memecoins on pump.fun is 12 days.
  4. 15% of memecoins on pump.fun die within 1 day.

98% of Pump.fun Memecoins Don’t Survive Beyond 3 Months

Memecoins have always been short-lived, but on Pump.fun, the survival rate is even more brutal. We examined 968,819 tokens launched within the last 3 months and found out:

A staggering 98% (951,565 tokens) have already died. Only 2% (17,254 tokens) are still alive, highlighting just how fragile these projects are.

These tokens rely heavily on hype and viral trends. Without consistent utility, community support, or market demand, they quickly lose relevance, with investors moving on to the next speculative bet. This makes it incredibly difficult for any memecoin to build lasting value.

The Daily Turnover: 9,912 Tokens Die Every 24 Hours

The memecoin ecosystem on Pump.fun is in a constant state of flux. Every day, 10,417 new tokens are created, but almost as many, 9,912, die within the same period. This means that the platform is operating with a near 95% turnover rate—essentially, most memecoins have a fleeting lifespan.

This pattern is largely driven by speculative trading. Many memecoins see an initial surge in value during their launch, driven by social media buzz or influencer marketing. However, when the hype fades, prices drop sharply, and most of the tokens are abandoned. With little liquidity and no real-world use case, these tokens quickly become irrelevant.

Memecoin Lifespan: The Average Is Just 12 Days

The data on the lifespan of Pump.fun memecoins paints a clear picture: these projects aren’t built to last. The average lifespan of a memecoin on the platform is just 12 days. Let’s break it down further:

  • 15% of tokens die within the first day.
  • 31% of tokens die within a week.

In contrast, the average lifespan of a memecoin outside of Pump.fun is around 1 year, and for non-meme crypto projects, it's about 3 years. This data demonstrates just how risky and short-lived the memecoin market on Pump.fun truly is.

Conclusion: The Harsh Truth About Memecoins on Pump.fun

While Pump.fun provides a low barrier to entry for memecoin creators, the data is clear—most tokens don’t survive more than a few days. With an average lifespan of just 12 days, memecoins on this platform are fleeting by design. For anyone entering the memecoin market, the harsh truth is that only a small fraction of projects will stand the test of time.

Methodology

We used Dune.com to compile a list of Pump.fun tokens that have been issued in the recent three months. In total, almost 970,000 Pump.fun projects were assessed. Next, we gathered their 24-hour transaction volume on Dune, which is calculated in US dollars.

To evaluate whether they are 'dead', we calculated the ATH 24H trading volume and then checked to see if the current 24-hour trading volume was less than 90% of the ATH number.

The birthday of a project is the day their first trading transaction was recorded. For the dead date, we determined the day the volume went below the 90% ATH value threshold.Lifespan was estimated by subtracting the death date from the birthday.

Missing data was eliminated from this study to improve its correctness.
