The era of the Gala Games Treasure Chest has come to an end as Gala Games embarks on a migration journey towards GalaChain. Previously stored items in players' Treasure Chests persist in their inventory but can now only be minted directly onto the GalaChain.

From Custodial Wallets to GalaChain Minting: A Paradigm Shift

Gala Games has long relied on its custodial wallet to secure player tokens and distribute NFTs. While this remains unchanged, a noteworthy development allows players to mint tokens and items from their wallet onto GalaChain without incurring any charges.

The transition introduces a level of confusion. NFTs obtained through direct Gala Games purchases or secondary markets reside on the Ethereum blockchain. Conversely, items received as gifts, such as Gala Gold rewards or contest prizes, were stored in the now obsolete 'Treasure Chest,' essentially a custodial wallet operated by Gala Games.

Two significant changes emerge. Firstly, the term 'Treasure Chest' is abandoned in favor of a simpler 'inventory.' Secondly, to move an item or token out of their custodial wallet, players must now mint it onto GalaChain—the designated sidechain for all future Gala applications.

Trading Dilemma: GalaChain vs. Ethereum

A crucial consideration arises when players wish to trade or sell an item—it must reside on the Ethereum blockchain. Transferring an NFT from GalaChain to Ethereum incurs a fee in GALA tokens. Despite GalaChain offering fee-less purchases directly from Gala, the absence of a player-to-player marketplace complicates matters.

Adding to the complexity is Gala Games' use of the term 'Allowance.' Un-minted items are labeled as 'GalaChain Allowance,' and opting to 'Fulfill Allowance' creates the item on GalaChain. While Gala Games is open to new terms, 'Allowance' aligns with their current understanding.Minting items from the inventory onto GalaChain comes at no charge. However, items for Common Ground (formerly Town Star) are yet to be minted to GalaChain, with this functionality still in development.

GalaChain emerges as the linchpin for Gala Games' future. Items minted within the Gala gaming ecosystem will find a home on GalaChain. This transition extends to payouts from Founder Nodes, with rewards now flowing into GalaChain.

Gala Games extends its influence beyond gaming, delving into projects for NFT-based music and film distribution. The acquisition of Ember Entertainment signals Gala Games' integration of NFTs into the mobile gaming realm. GalaChain, formerly GYRI, is poised to become the backbone for all Gala Games' apps and games in the foreseeable future.

Final Thoughts

Gala Games' shift to GalaChain marks a pivotal moment in web3 gaming. The elimination of the Treasure Chest and introduction of GalaChain redefine how players interact with assets. Despite complexities, GalaChain's role as a sidechain is central to Gala Games' future. The journey towards fee-free item minting is promising, yet challenges persist. Overall, Gala Games' commitment to innovation, from gaming to NFTs, positions GalaChain as a transformative force in the evolving landscape of blockchain gaming.
