Epic Games, the popular video game company behind Fortnite and Rocket League, has announced plans to add nearly 20 NFT(non-fungible tokens) games to the iconic game store, the Epic Games Store. The move signals a significant step towards web3 blockchain integration in the gaming industry.
NFT games use non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are unique digital assets that represent ownership of in-game items or experiences. These games offer the same immersive gameplay experience as traditional games, with the added benefit of blockchain technology that allows players to own their in-game items. From shooters to strategy-based MOA games, NFT games take gaming to the next level by providing players with a new level of ownership and value for their gaming experiences.
Currently, Epic Games has five NFT games in its marketplace. The company's executive, Steve Allison, has revealed that they plan to add even more and up to nearly 20 NFT games.
The first of the series of NFT games is Blankos Block Party, a block-themed metaverse game where users can create virtual experiences and mini-games that other players can enjoy. The game also features a vast collection of vinyl-themed NFTs called "Blankos" that players can purchase in marketplaces.

While the NFT games are not developed by Epic themselves, Allison claims that the games currently on its roster are performing "pretty well."
The Epic Game Store will become a good receptor for traditional gamers on how their view on web3 gaming will evolve, whether or not they will be more accepting of it. Only a handful of gaming companies are accepting crypto and NFTs, including Ubisoft, Nintendo, and Square Enix.
After a long silence, The Pokemon Company has recently revealed signs of its foray into a potential Pokemon-themed NFT game. Square Enix has doubled down on its metaverse game with the recent release of the cinematic reveal despite criticisms of the company’s direction. Meanwhile, Steam is still against crypto and blockchain alike.
Final Thoughts
The addition of 20 NFT games to the Epic Games Store could lead to a significant shift in the gaming industry, as more companies may follow suit in accepting blockchain and cryptocurrency.
The move could also pave the way for new and innovative gameplay experiences for gamers worldwide. Epic Games is expected to reveal more details about which NFT games will be onboarding the platform in the coming months.
