Real-time graphics, multiplayer gaming, and state-of-the-art blockchain technology are all combined in Star Atlas, an advanced gaming metaverse. With the help of Unreal Engine 5's Nanite technology, the game produces stunning, cinematic graphics. Blockchain integration via Solana ensures a secure and serverless gameplay experience. In Star Atlas, player assets, including NFTs, create an economy similar to real-world assets, giving players ownership and trading opportunities.

Crew Cards are a new addition to the Star Atlas universe, now available as individual NFTs. These cards represent unique crew members who can be assigned to any ship, enhancing gameplay with added versatility and strategic options. There are seven species represented by Crew Cards: Photoli, Tufa, Mierese, Punaabs, Usturs, and Manus Ultima Divina (MUD). Each species has its own story and characteristics.
Crew Cards are also categorized by rarity and one of seven aptitudes: Command, Flight, Engineering, Medical, Scientist, Operator, or Hospitality. By assigning crew members to roles that match their aptitudes, players can improve their fleet’s efficiency. For example, a crew member with a Medical aptitude will perform better in a Medical role, speeding up growth and boosting the fleet’s overall performance.
Initial Crew Cards Utility in SAGE Labs
Crew Cards were first introduced in August 2024 through Crew Packs. This update brought an initial utility to SAGE Labs, where the cards can now enhance crafting efficiency. More crew members mean faster crafting speeds for in-game items. As Star Atlas evolves, additional uses and roles for Crew Cards will be added, expanding their influence on gameplay.

On September 12th, 2024, the launch of Crew Cards utility will also lead to the automatic destruction of all fleets, which will be returned to the Central Space Station for reorganization. Improvements in crew management are expected, making it easier to import and withdraw Crew Cards. For example, a script shared on the Star Atlas Discord will assist in transferring crew members from Ledger to SAGE.
Another feature for Star Atlas players is the Component Bundles. These bundles include high-tier ship parts and weapons that were once part of ships but are now available separately. Like Crew Cards, Component Bundles were airdropped in August, and they will be distributed to eligible holders at a later date, possibly alongside a new game feature.
Component Bundles allow players to upgrade their ships with high-performance parts such as shield generators, warp drives, thrusters, and weapon systems. When the Ship Configuration Protocol is launched, players can either convert these bundles into individual parts or trade them on the galactic marketplace.
After the snapshot date for Component Bundles, new ships bought from the marketplace will only include basic Tier 0 parts. These parts cannot be traded and will be replaced when higher-tier components are installed.
Star Atlas is set to expand its metaverse further with Crew Cards and Component Bundles becoming essential assets. The upcoming Ship Configuration Protocol will transform ships from semi-fungible tokens into fully customizable NFTs. This change will allow players to personalize their ships, upgrading components to match their playstyle and strategy.
The launch of Crew Cards on September 12th is a key milestone in Star Atlas’ ongoing development. This update will offer new ways for players to optimize their fleets and engage with the growing world of SAGE Labs.
