Telegram, the popular social media platform, is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of new blockchain features announced by its founder, Pavel Durov. These features, unveiled during the Token2049 conference, aim to integrate cryptocurrencies seamlessly into the platform's ecosystem, making them accessible to all users.
Payments in Toncoin for Adverts and Tips
Channel administrators on Telegram will now have the option to receive payments in Toncoin (TON) for advertising services. This move not only provides a new revenue stream for admins but also facilitates the use of cryptocurrencies within the platform's advertising ecosystem. Additionally, users can now tip channel admins in TON, offering content creators a direct route to monetization.
One of the most innovative features introduced is the ability to buy and sell stickers as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). With sticker artists receiving a significant portion of the sales proceeds (95%), this feature incentivizes creativity and provides artists with a new avenue for monetizing their work. Furthermore, Telegram will incorporate mini-apps that enable users to purchase content using crypto and share TON directly with contacts.
Durov highlighted the groundbreaking aspect of these updates, emphasizing that users can now directly own their usernames, sell them, or even put them up for auction. This feature democratizes username ownership and introduces new possibilities for user identity within the platform. Moreover, users will soon be able to log into their Telegram accounts using crypto wallets, simplifying the integration of blockchain technology into the platform.
Future Developments: Registering Account Names and Enhanced User Experience
In the near future, Telegram users can expect additional features such as the ability to register the rights to their account names, paving the way for potential resale opportunities. These upcoming developments signify a fundamental shift in how users interact with blockchain technology on social media platforms. By seamlessly integrating crypto transactions into social media interactions, Telegram is poised to enhance the overall user experience and foster greater adoption of cryptocurrencies among its user base.
In conclusion, Telegram's adoption of blockchain features represents a significant step towards mainstream cryptocurrency integration within social media platforms. With a user-friendly approach and innovative functionalities, these updates promise to revolutionize the way users engage with crypto assets and blockchain technology on Telegram.
