Key Takeaways

  • Yuga Labs is teaming up with Amazon Gaming for the first time to release an exclusive NFT called Boximus on October 30.
  • The Koda Nexus, a new interactive hub in the Otherside metaverse, will officially open on November 12.
  • These moves show Yuga Labs’ plan to expand Otherside’s audience and bring blockchain-based gaming to mainstream users.

Amazon Partners with Yuga Labs for Exclusive NFT

Yuga Labs is joining forces with Amazon Gaming to release a special NFT called Boximus. This digital avatar will appear on the Otherside brand store through Amazon starting October 30. It’s a major milestone since it’s the first time Amazon has featured a metaverse NFT project on its gaming front page.

During ApeFest in Las Vegas, Yuga Labs’ Chief Creative Officer Michael Figge shared the announcement, saying, “Amazon has over 300 million users, and we're going to be selling digital assets to all of them.” The collaboration brings the metaverse closer to mainstream audiences and exposes millions of Amazon users to NFTs and blockchain-based gaming for the first time.

What the Koda Nexus Offers

The Koda Nexus is the first main space in the Otherside metaverse. It’s designed as a social hub where players can explore, meet, and interact. This will be the foundation for a larger, layered experience.

After the Nexus comes a gameplay-focused phase with battles, quests, and missions made by both Yuga Labs and external developers. The final phase will introduce the Otherside Development Kit (ODK), a creation tool that lets users build and publish their own content inside the world.

The Nexus serves as the core of Otherside, setting the stage for a more connected and interactive metaverse experience.

Yuga Labs Refines Its Focus on Otherside

Since its first land NFT sale in 2022, Otherside has been one of Yuga Labs’ biggest projects. The initial sale, called Otherdeeds, generated more than $560 million in a single day. However, it also caused high Ethereum gas fees, leading Yuga to issue refunds.

The company later held several large-scale playtests such as “First Trip,” “Second Trip,” and “Project Dragon.” The last one drew over 2,100 participants into the same server, earning a Guinness World Record for the largest live multiplayer event in a virtual world.

To streamline operations, Yuga Labs has recently sold off other collections like Meebits, Moonbirds, and CryptoPunks. This allows the company to focus entirely on Otherside and the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) ecosystem.

The Boximus NFT is part of Otherside’s Voyager series. These avatars can move, explore, and interact with the virtual environment, giving players a true metaverse experience. The Boximus avatar, made in partnership with Amazon, acts as a bridge between traditional retail and blockchain gaming. Once the Koda Nexus goes live, players will be able to use Boximus directly inside the Otherside world.

Yuga Labs is also collaborating with artist Daniel Arsham to launch a limited 300-piece Voyager collection. Each piece will be a mix of digital art and interactive gameplay, designed to evolve over time.

The Otherside Development Kit (ODK) is built to empower creators. It includes AI-powered features that let users build 3D environments using simple text prompts like “add a tree” or “make the sky blue.” It also offers access to nearly 1,000 in-game assets from 29 biomes, allowing for custom world creation.

Players who own Otherdeed land NFTs will get tools for building emotes, graffiti, and small interactive elements. Yuga Labs says all creations are protected by royalties, giving players ownership and the chance to earn revenue.
