Treasure's New Ethereum Layer-2 Network
Treasure, a crypto gaming ecosystem, has launched a new Ethereum layer-2 scaling network, signaling its move away from Arbitrum. The shift is focused on building a network specifically designed to meet the needs of the gaming world. This change is expected to unlock new possibilities for gamers, improving their overall experience.
The new network is built on ZKsync’s Elastic Chain, which is a series of interoperable zero-knowledge rollup chains. Treasure’s network will also use the project’s MAGIC token. As part of the transition, over 15 games, hundreds of thousands of NFTs, and tokens will be migrated from Arbitrum. Users can easily move their assets using the Hyperlane bridge. This move will help Treasure better cater to the unique demands of the gaming community.

Treasure originally committed to building on Arbitrum, even announcing plans to create a network of “Infinity Chains.” However, the project's co-founder, Karel Vuong, explained that recent changes in their goals led them to reconsider. They realized that a gaming-first approach was necessary. The Ethereum layer-2 network now provides features that are tailored to the gaming industry, things that general layer-2 solutions do not prioritize.
Key Features for a Better Gaming Experience
Treasure's new gaming-specific layer-2 network brings several improvements. One of the most notable features is gasless transactions. This means players won’t need to worry about transaction fees while engaging in games. The new network also allows for easier social account creation, along with specialized infrastructure for game economies. This will support a more seamless and engaging gaming experience.
Treasure's Game Exchange feature, which enables users to exchange assets, offer liquidity, and receive incentives within the game, will be enhanced by the new network. With lower costs and faster speeds, the platform will be more efficient and enjoyable for gamers. Additionally, the Treasure Development Kit will help developers integrate blockchain features into their games more easily. This reduces the complexity of using smart contracts and opens the door for AI agents to play a part in the gaming world.

Another important aspect of the update is the ability for players to log in using traditional methods, such as email and social media accounts. Alongside crypto wallets, these options will be possible through ZKsync’s native account abstraction features. This helps bridge the gap between blockchain gaming and traditional gaming, making the platform more accessible to a wider audience.
Treasure had initially dismissed a proposal from ZKsync earlier in the year. At the time, the team didn’t believe ZKsync’s technology had enough traction with users. However, as Treasure’s technical requirements evolved, the network’s capabilities began to align more with the project’s vision. The focus on ZK-based scalability, native account abstraction, and Elastic Network interoperability made ZKsync the right fit for the new layer-2 network.
Treasure’s Timeline and Future Plans
Despite the shift in technology, Treasure’s timelines remain on track. The mainnet launch of the new network took place ahead of schedule, with several games expected to launch on the platform by the end of the year. More games are anticipated for Q1 2025. Some of the games already on board include Wanders, a roguelite action game, and Bitmates, a monkey-themed MMO. Additionally, Zeeverse, a role-playing game, is already utilizing the Game Exchange system.
Treasure’s growth is evident through ongoing discussions with other game developers about potential migrations. The action role-playing game, Calamity, is making the move from Ethereum layer-2 network Base to Treasure. Vuong expressed excitement about the momentum building within the Treasure ecosystem, with both current and new partners eager to build on its infrastructure.
As part of the mainnet launch, Treasure is introducing the Decentralized Entertainment System: Cartridges. This campaign, inspired by retro gaming systems, will offer daily free NFT mints. These NFTs will feature games from the Treasure ecosystem, turning them into valuable collector's items for players. This initiative helps further integrate the crypto gaming community into the broader gaming landscape.
Looking ahead to Q1 2025, Treasure plans to introduce staking for the MAGIC token, utilizing Ethereum protocol EigenLayer. This addition will expand the use cases for the MAGIC token, taking the decentralized game console to the next level. Vuong is optimistic about the future, stating that the upcoming months will bring exciting developments for Treasure and its community.
