Starbucks is making strides towards Metaverse with its newly launched NFT rewards Starbucks Odyssey. After initially introducing the Web3 experience in September, Starbucks ultimately released a test version of their metaverse on December 8.
Starbucks Odyssey “Journeys” are a series of “entertaining, interactive activities to earn collectible “Journey Stamps” (NFTs built on Polygon) and Odyssey Points that will unlock access to exciting new benefits and experiences,” the company said in a statement when it first opened access to the new platform on Thursday.
About Starbucks Odyssey

Starbucks Odyssey is a Web3-enabled expansion of Starbucks Rewards that aims to provide members with new opportunities for benefits and experiences.
A select number of people on the waitlist and Starbucks partners received the initial invites in December. A larger group of people in the queue will start receiving monthly invitations starting in January 2023.
Starbucks Odyssey is a digital community experience where users can connect, communicate, and share their passion for coffee. Members will receive Odyssey Points and collect "Journey Stamps" after finishing a "Journey," which the company described as nonfungible tokens (NFTs) that "unlock access to new advantages and immersive coffee experiences."
Starbucks’ NFTs have been rebranded as “Journey Stamps” and can now be bought and traded without the need for cryptocurrencies. By enabling consumers to accrue points as they buy and sell NFTs, the coffee chain has also taken a cue from the well-known design of a rewards program. After then, points can be exchanged for in-store experiences.
Starbucks has been reticent about some specifics of the Odyssey experience and awards, but the examples they provide have nothing to do with customary perks like discounts and free drinks. Instead, Starbucks is rewarding metaverse participants with more memorable awards like access to unique products, in-store events, and training on how to make espresso martinis.
Wrapping up
Globally renowned companies including Samsung, Coca-Cola, Nike, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, and Domino’s were among the first to stake their claim in the Metaverse. The list of these companies continues to increase. Currently, all eyes are on Starbucks as they find out how to make the metaverse work for this new era of digital customer connection. Starbucks Odyssey will be made available to the general public beginning in early 2023.
