Nyan Heroes Returns to Epic Games Store for Playtest 04

Nyan Heroes will be back on the Epic Games Store for its next playtest period starting March 26. Playtest 04 brings new updates, including a new hero, game mode, and map. Players will have the opportunity to sample the most recent updates and content during the test, which runs until April 13. In order to improve the gameplay before moving on to the next stage of development, the creators want to get user feedback.

The Solana blockchain is the foundation of the free team shooter game Nyan Heroes.  Players control powerful mechs piloted by cats. The game has gained traction on the Epic Games Store, surpassing 100,000 players during its pre-alpha demo. It also became one of the most wishlisted games on the platform and received a feature from Epic Games. The integration of crypto elements, including tokens and NFTs, allows players to engage with the game beyond traditional mechanics, offering unique assets that can be traded or collected.

Introducing New Hero Coco and Gizmo

The latest playtest introduces a new hero, Coco, and his mech Gizmo. Gizmo can deploy turrets that shoot at enemies, pick up scraps to strengthen armor, and create floating platforms. His ultimate ability allows him to summon a giant version of himself that throws explosives at enemies while granting armor to allies.

“By safeguarding his team, making it simpler to reach high ground, prioritizing key locations, and implementing additional protective and vertical control levels, Gizmo will upend the meta.,” said 9 Lives CEO and Executive Producer Max Fu. Players who prefer tactical gameplay will benefit from Gizmo’s defensive and supportive abilities, making him a valuable addition to any team.

New Game Mode: Fishball

Fishball is a fast-paced multiplayer mode inspired by Call of Duty’s Uplink. Carrying or tossing a pufferfish-shaped ball into the opponent's goal allows players to score points. In order to secure points and keep the other team from scoring, players must balance offensive and defense, which highlights collaboration in the game format.

“Teams need to learn how to divert attention while keeping the carrier safe, " Fu stated. The ability of the ball carrier to shoot (but not utilize their ultimates) to help change the outcome of a battle is exclusive to Nyan Heroes.” The added flexibility in combat ensures that teams have multiple strategies for success, whether they focus on aggressive plays or strong defensive formations.

New Map: Tokyo’s Last Stand

The new map is set in a recreation of Tokyo, a city that served as one of the last lines of defense against the feral robot Guardians. According to the game’s lore, the Nyans lost this battle. To get ready for the city's rehabilitation, they now practice on a reproduction of it. The layout strikes a balance between close-quarters and long-range fighting by combining open spaces with winding pathways.

The map's vertical movement and small spaces make for fast-paced gaming. The design works in sync with the new hero and game mode, offering players more dynamic combat opportunities. Players who enjoy strategic movement will find the Tokyo map an exciting battleground where positioning and agility are key to victory.

Playtest 04 will bring several quality-of-life updates. Players can expect improvements to the heads-up display (HUD), voiceovers, and music. New secondary weapons and an upgraded text chat system will also be introduced. The improved HUD aims to provide clearer information during matches, helping players react quickly to changing situations.

A new airdrop campaign will take place during the playtest. More details will be revealed soon. Players have the chance to obtain special in-game awards during this event, which increases the motivation to take part in the playtest.
