Off the Grid has made an incredible start, quickly becoming one of the most popular crypto games. It’s one of the biggest launches in the gaming world, drawing in many players, even those unaware that blockchain technology is involved. The crypto features haven’t been fully implemented yet, but the game’s success so far is undeniable.

Off the Grid's Impressive Launch

The hype surrounding the launch is starting to cool off. Gunzilla Games now faces the challenge of keeping players engaged as the game evolves. Off the Grid needs to maintain a steady player base and improve before leaving early access. Otherwise, it could miss the chance to showcase how blockchain can enhance gaming.

The absence of obvious damage indications is one of the most annoying things about Off the Grid. Without looking at a tiny bar in the corner of the screen, it's difficult to determine how much health you have left. It's not clear when you're near death under the present setup. Other games use better visual cues like changing colors or adding visual effects to signal low health. Off the Grid could benefit from adopting a similar system.

New Upgrades For Off The Grid

Although a new map is in the game’s roadmap, it should be prioritized. The current map is a long, narrow line, which sounds interesting but doesn't work well in practice. Most players end up in the middle of the map, leaving the outer areas underused. A more traditionally shaped map would solve this issue, making the gameplay more balanced and less predictable.

Battle royale games thrive on adaptability, and the ease of getting a loadout drop in Off the Grid takes away from that challenge. It’s too simple to obtain a top-tier loadout early in the game, which reduces the variety and excitement. Making loadout drops harder to secure would keep players on their toes and make the game more fun by encouraging more looting and strategy.

The player-vs-environment (PvE) aspect of Off the Grid is still under development, but the current narrative elements feel unnecessary. The cut scenes that try to introduce a story are more of a distraction than an addition. While they might become more relevant later, right now they detract from the core gameplay. For those who simply want to get right into the action, letting them choose not to participate in these sequences would improve the overall experience.

As of right now, Off the Grid's player-to-player marketplace is restricted by a paywall and requires a £10 ($12) monthly subscription.  While this price isn’t outrageous, it limits access to the market and creates a divide between paying and non-paying players. A better approach would be to allow all players to participate in the marketplace and take a small fee from each transaction. This would encourage more activity and variety in the marketplace, benefiting the overall player experience.
