MetalCore’s Move to Solana
MetalCore, the mech shooter game developed by Studio 369, is making a major shift in November. The game will migrate from the Ethereum-based layer-2 network Immutable zkEVM to the Solana blockchain. This move aligns with the game’s second season launch, which Studio 369 has set for November. The transition reflects the studio's strategy as it is well known that Solana's network can handle billions of transactions without experiencing any outages, and Studio 369 CEO Matt Candler says that Solana's growing ecosystem and ability to handle a high volume of transactions are the reasons why the company was chosen. Candler also noted Solana games like Star Atlas and Aurory, hinting at new possibilities for cross-promotions and collaborations that could enhance MetalCore’s reach and user experience.

MetalCore initially aimed to launch on Immutable zkEVM, an Ethereum layer-2 network focusing on gaming, in late 2023. However, delays in Immutable zkEVM’s mainnet launch led Studio 369 to adjust its roadmap. This situation pushed the studio to restructure, including scaling down its team. In March, Studio 369 raised an additional $5 million to support MetalCore’s development and adapt to these unforeseen changes. The game finally launched in open beta on the Epic Games Store in September, where it introduced the MCG token and a selection of NFTs on Immutable zkEVM.
Positive Reception from the Gaming Community
Following its launch, MetalCore received a strong reception. Studio 369 reported successful Season 1 results, with strong metrics pointing to a robust in-game economy taking shape. Notably, non-crypto users contributed over $100,000 in asset purchases via a Web2 store, reflecting the game’s appeal to a broader audience. Season 1, titled "MetalPunks Rhapsody," began in September, bringing new features and performance upgrades as the game transitioned to Unreal Engine 5. The studio also made MetalCore more accessible to new users by simplifying interactions with crypto assets, including removing the need to create a crypto wallet.

To further simplify player interaction with crypto elements, Studio 369 is adopting Solana Labs’ GameShift platform. GameShift minimizes crypto-related barriers, making it easier for users to engage with MetalCore’s in-game economy. This move reflects Studio 369’s focus on accessibility, targeting players who may not have prior crypto experience.
With the transition to Solana, MetalCore players will need to migrate their NFTs and tokens from Immutable zkEVM. Studio 369 is preparing detailed instructions for this process to help users smoothly transfer their assets to Solana. Though an exact date for the migration hasn’t been set, Studio 369 has planned it to coincide with the start of the game’s second season in November.
This move to Solana marks a new chapter for MetalCore, aligning the game with a blockchain ecosystem that offers greater speed, stability, and integration possibilities.
