A New Chapter for Good Fun Corporation

Good Fun Corporation has returned with a whole new product. The studio changed its name and took a daring new turn after turning over Hell Let Loose to Team17. Hunger, their upcoming game, is a first-person multiplayer role-playing game that combines aspects of historical narrative, gothic horror, and extraction shooters. It's rough. It's intense. Additionally, it takes place in a bleak, alternative Europe during Napoleon's reign.

Hunger immerses players in a bleak Europe of the 19th century. Like wildfire, a plague known as "the Hunger" has spread. It feels like rabies, is swift, and is violent. The Chateau is a fortification where survivors currently reside. One of the last human strongholds, it was modeled after Mont-Saint-Michel. Players, referred to as the Living, then set out to find the virus's true cause, battle frightful monsters, and scavenge resources.

The world draws inspiration from the Victorian and Renaissance periods. The images evoke Caravaggio's gloomy tones. To create a spooky, realistic scene, the crew drew inspiration from Dutch and English paintings. The fashion? It is referred to as "Renaissance Gothic." It has a stunning yet frightful appearance.

At first glance, Hunger looks like another entry into the extraction genre. But it goes further. It’s a full RPG with storytelling, character development, and build variety. You drop into dangerous areas. You complete missions. You fight, scavenge, and then try to make it back alive. Fail, and you lose your loot. Succeed, and you grow stronger.

The core loop feels tight. You start in the Chateau, venture out, gather what you can, then return to upgrade gear and your character. There are over 30 weapons planned. Add in consumables, crafting tools, and deep ability customization, and the result is a lot of room for personal playstyles.

The game begins with six playable characters. Each one has their own past, their own story, and their own powers. You’ll meet Hugo, a fallen French noble. Eva, a streetwise thief from Paris. Serene, a former slave turned resistance fighter. Marie, a battle-hardened nun. Gabriel, a cavalryman. And a Prussian mercenary who specializes in gear repair.

These aren’t blank-slate avatars. They feel like real people. Each one comes with passive, tactical, and ultimate abilities. But you're not stuck in a class system. The mastery tree lets you experiment and mix builds. The goal is variety and realism. These characters have been through hell, and it shows.

The Infected Are More Than Enemies

Hunger doesn’t just build its world through scenery and dialogue. The enemies also tell a story. At launch, there will be six types: Dregs, Shamblers, Waifs, Bloats, Droolers, and Brutes. Each one moves and fights differently. Each one used to be human.

This matters. When you take one down, you’re not just clearing an obstacle. You’re facing the remains of someone who used to laugh, love, or dream. The design makes you feel that weight. The horror comes from empathy as much as it does from gore. More enemy types and factions will arrive with future updates.

The game draws from many sources. From the disturbing world of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, to the poetic surrealism of One Hundred Years of Solitude. From Caravaggio’s dramatic light and shadow, to Peter Greenaway’s films. The tone is thoughtful, moody, and tense.

It’s not just about jump scares or kill counts. Every detail—from weapons to music—is crafted to support the setting. The horror comes from the world falling apart. From the fear of what’s inside people just as much as what’s outside.

Hunger will enter Early Access in the second half of 2025 on the Epic Games Store. The launch will include three large maps, six playable characters, a social hub, and all current enemy types.

The studio plans to stay in Early Access for about two years. During that time, players can expect new maps, more characters, fresh weapons, and even PvP content. Updates will come regularly. The full version will aim to offer a long-lasting, replayable experience with a true endgame.

If Good Fun Corporation pulls it off, Hunger could be something special. It blends fast-paced action with deep character work. It doesn’t copy others—it builds on them. And it might be one of the most atmospheric, ambitious multiplayer RPGs in recent memory.
