Game developers using Unity can now easily integrate web3 tools and protocols into their video games with the newly added "Decentralization" category in its asset store. Decentralization, as described in Unity's official announcement, refers to models of ownership in games that allow players to create, earn, or obtain in-game resources that they can sell or trade.

The newly added category is a significant contribution to Unity’s asset store, allowing web3 developers to have the right access to tools to build better NFT and metaverse experiences for gamers. According to Unity, the leading game engine platform has added 13 new software developer kits (SDKs) from well-known chains in its category that developers can use including ImmutableXSolana, MetaMask, Dapper Labs, and many more contained in its virtual toolbox.

The recent move showcases the platform’s bullishness for NFT gaming. It is no surprise since many NFT games use Unity in their development, including Decentraland and The Sandbox. Both of these games are at the forefront of web3 gaming’s metaverse experience with The Sandbox having produced collaborated web3 experiences with icons such as Tony Hawk and with several Hong Kong investors.

Gamers have always been at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, and blockchain is no exception. With nearly 50% of all blockchain activity coming from gamers, it's clear that they are embracing the possibilities of web3 with open arms. In fact, companies across the industry are starting to view NFT gaming as a crucial tool for bringing crypto into the mainstream. Polygon Labs, for example, has recently shifted its focus to web3 gaming, recognizing the potential for the technology to transform the gaming landscape.

Final Thoughts

Due to its massive potential, web3 gaming has seen increasingly more investments in companies such as Square Enix. Furthermore, NFT gaming has proven to be one of the most resilient sectors of crypto.
