Players can enjoy four distinct game modes in Season 3. Each mode caters to different playing styles and skill levels:

• Ranked Match: This competitive mode rewards the highest points for victories and impacts a player's Glicko2-based ELO rating. Because this rating is kept on-chain, the game's ranking system is transparent.
• Quick Match: A light-hearted option that lets players battle without influencing their rankings. Players can earn points regardless of the match outcome, making it a great choice for relaxed gameplay.
• Play A Friend: This mode enables players to challenge friends directly by sending a unique match link. It encourages strategic play and cooperation among friends.
• Play With Bot: For those looking to practice, this mode features AI opponents at various difficulty levels. It serves as an excellent opportunity to hone skills before competing against real players.

In Season 3, players can earn points across the first three modes, with each match offering rewards regardless of the outcome. However, players can only accumulate points from their first three matches in each mode daily, allowing for a maximum of nine matches for point earnings. This structure encourages players to participate regularly while also adding an element of strategy to their gameplay.

To accommodate different playing styles, Anichess provides three timer settings for each mode:

• Classic: 30 minutes with no increment.
• Rapid: 10 minutes with no increment.
• Blitz: every 2 seconds, for a duration of 5 minutes.

These timer options give players the flexibility to choose how quickly they want to play, enhancing the overall experience.

Season 3 also introduces nine updated spells, balanced for fairer gameplay. After completing Scherif’s Introduction, players start with five random spells. They can unlock additional spells by accomplishing milestone-based missions, which require winning a certain number of matches and capturing specific pieces. This adds depth and strategy, encouraging players to engage fully with the game and explore its various aspects.
