Exploring WorldShards: A Deep Dive into the In-Game Economy

The fantasy sandbox MMORPG WorldShards takes place in the cat-ruled realm of Murrlandia. Players can explore, create, and take part in a growing economy in this open-ended game. Players advance by honing their skills and becoming experts in various jobs rather than using a conventional leveling system.

This is the second article in a four-part series exploring WorldShards' unique economy. Stay tuned for the next articles.

Players enter Murrlandia after discovering a Mana Stone fragment, which transports them from the modern world into the game. Once inside, they explore vast regions filled with hidden secrets, gather resources, and take on various challenges, including battles and puzzles.

Beyond adventure, players can build and customize their own islands, establish a production base, and craft equipment. They can specialize in gathering, crafting, or other economic activities, shaping their role in the in-game market. In Q2 2025, an auction system will launch, making trade even easier by allowing players to buy and sell resources and crafted items.

Types of Collectible Items

Collectible items form a key part of WorldShards’ economy. Players fully own these items, and some allow them to participate in the crypto market by earning $SHARDS through in-game drops.

There are several types of collectibles:

  • Founders and Additional Islands
  • Crafting Artifacts
  • Collectible Gear
  • Decoration Items

Collectible gear includes weapons, armor, and tools used in combat and resource gathering. Their effectiveness depends on their characteristics and upgrade levels. Artifacts enhance workbenches, helping players craft and upgrade collectible gear.

Islands act as digital land plots where players can build, develop, and manufacture items. Decorative collectibles add visual appeal and improve an island’s comfort level, enhancing crafting and production.

Craftable collectibles are made using recipes and workbenches. Non-craftable ones come from rewards or lootboxes. Unlike common items, collectible gear does not get destroyed when its durability reaches zero. Instead, it can be repaired and upgraded in level, tier, and sometimes rarity.

Collectible gear has a unique "Luck" parameter that affects token drop rates. Upgrading requires a workbench, a Crafting Artifact of equal or higher level, and resources like tokens, Gems, and Ancient Rifts.

To earn $SHARDS, players must charge their collectible gear. This requires an artifact-equipped workbench and Gems. The process can be sped up using additional Gems and previously earned $SHARDS. Once charged, these items activate "Fortune’s Favor," a temporary effect that enables token drops during adventures.

If a collectible item’s durability reaches zero, it becomes unusable but does not disappear. Players must repair it at the correct workbench using in-game currency. The workbench level must match or exceed the item’s level for repairs.

How to Obtain and Use Collectible Items

Since collectibles come in different forms, there are different ways to get them.

  • Additional and Founders Islands are not available in-game. Players can purchase them on the Open Loot market from other users or through developer sales.
  • Founders Gear is also only available on the Open Loot market. These items have unique visuals and higher rarity, providing an advantage in $SHARDS gathering. However, they cannot be upgraded via workbenches.
  • Weapons, tools, and armor are obtained through crafting. Players can gather resources, invest Gems and tokens, and upgrade these items. Crafted items can also be traded on Open Loot, helping build a balanced economy.

Using collectible items effectively requires regular upgrades and repairs. Charging collectible gear activates the "Luck" parameter, influencing token drop rates. The strength of this effect, known as "Attraction Force," depends on the Luck and Luck Multiplier of equipped items. Removing an activated item weakens the effect, while re-equipping restores it.

Final Thoughts

WorldShards’ collectibles add depth to the economy by enhancing crafting, trading, and resource management. Whether upgrading gear, increasing "Luck," or decorating islands, these items create meaningful gameplay opportunities. Future updates will introduce new mechanics, refining the collectible item experience. Keep an eye out for the next articles in this series to learn more about WorldShards' evolving economy.
