PUBG Introduces NFTs Through Banger Platform

PUBG, the popular battle royale game, is introducing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) through a new platform called Banger. Set to launch in 2023, Banger is a gaming hub that allows games to integrate NFTs into their ecosystems. Users can sign up for the Banger alpha and receive a special, non-tradeable Banger digital collectible.

Banger alpha challenges include License to Kill, where players aim to get as many kills as possible. The higher a player’s rank, the better they will do, and headshots will earn extra points. Kill Frenzy tasks players with running over as many people as possible, with the top ten best results displayed at the top. Ghost Killer involves using a sniper rifle to get kills from as far away as possible to earn the most points.

According to the Chief Product Officer at Banger, Nicolas Gonzalez, the platform's alpha version will demonstrate that players of games like PUBG can use platforms like Banger without needing to make an initial investment or having their gaming experience altered. The platform's alpha test is expected to be well-attended due to new features and limited digital collectibles that users can own and display to show their involvement in the creation of Banger from the beginning.

It’s worth pointing out that in March of this year, the publisher behind PUBG, Krafton, announced a partnership with blockchain company Solana Labs to work together to develop and market blockchain and NFT-driven games that run on the Solana network.

The relationship between NFTs and the gaming industry has been complex. Many companies, both big and small, have tried to get in on the action, leading to a number of blockchain-related scams. Some games have even been built entirely around the concept of NFTs. While the NFT industry has struggled this year, it appears that some game companies will continue to pursue it until it is completely exhausted.

It is also worth noting that Banger is essentially a “white label” platform for NFT integration in games. This means that PUBG will not be building and integrating its own NFTs, instead relying on Banger to handle the blockchain side of things. It will be interesting to see how this aligns with Valve’s Steam cryptocurrency ban.
