Zillion Whales' Wild Forest, a free-to-play card RTS game, recently underwent a significant update aimed at enhancing the gaming experience for both Web2 and Web3 players. The update introduces groundbreaking changes, including the transformation of in-game Units into mintable NFTs and the implementation of a peer-to-peer (P2P) connection system for matchmaking.
Unit Transformation: From In-game Assets to NFTs
One of the most notable changes in this update is the reimagining of Units as in-game items that can be converted into Unit NFTs. Players now have the option to mint these NFTs by paying a mint gas cost, although this feature is currently unavailable for Beta Units. Additionally, the update introduces the Unit Rank Up feature, allowing players to enhance the rank of their Units either in-game or within the NFT ecosystem.
To address latency issues and improve matchmaking, Zillion Whales has implemented a P2P connection system, facilitating direct connections between players. While this system has temporarily been disabled to address matchmaking problems, its reintroduction promises smoother gameplay experiences for all users.
$WF Token Updates
Alongside gameplay changes, the update brings enhancements to the game's native currency, $WF. Zillion Whales has introduced an off-chain variant of the $WF token, which can be seamlessly deposited and withdrawn to and from the on-chain $WF. This off-chain token allows players to utilize features such as the Rank Up function, with plans for additional premium features in the future.
In a Substack post, the developers recommend players to deposit Beta $WF from their Ronin wallet into the game. However, withdrawing $WF and minting NFTs for Beta assets is currently restricted to prevent misuse. These functionalities will be made available upon the game's official launch, ensuring a fair and secure gaming environment.
Strategic Investment and Future Prospects
Notably, Wild Forest recently secured $500k in a seed round, with key investors including Animoca Brands and OKX Ventures. This funding underscores the game's potential and the support it has garnered within the gaming and blockchain communities.
Final Thoughts
The latest update to Wild Forest marks a significant step towards creating a more immersive and inclusive gaming experience, blending elements of traditional gameplay with innovative Web3 features. With the introduction of NFTs, a P2P connection system, and updates to the $WF token, Zillion Whales continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of blockchain gaming.
