The Sandbox Launches “Little Lands” Game Jam
The Sandbox has opened its newest game jam, “Little Lands,” bringing two famous children’s brands into the world of crypto gaming. Builders are invited to create fun and meaningful games featuring either the Smurfs or the Teletubbies. The prize pool includes 100,000 SAND and 20 LANDs. This event combines childlike charm with deeper creative ideas, all inside the upgraded Game Maker platform.
The Little Lands Game Jam began on August 8. The challenge is to design small-scale games with strong meaning. Creators can choose the magical world of the Smurfs or the colorful world of the Teletubbies. They must focus on one brand, not both. The goal is to tell a story, teach a lesson, or spark emotions in a compact virtual space.
Each game should show what happens when balance is disturbed. This can be a calm meadow turning into chaos or a personal journey to restore harmony. A Smurf might take on a digital mission, or a Teletubby might solve a gentle mystery. The characters should bring out a bigger idea through their charm and personality.

Registration is open until August 19. Anyone with a Sandbox account can join. No coding skills are required. The Sandbox provides a no-code Game Maker tool and beginner video tutorials to help participants start building.
Games must be submitted by September 3 at 4:00 PM UTC. Winners will be announced live on Twitch on September 20 at 6:00 PM UTC.
The Sandbox is also hosting live workshops, offering guides, and sharing tips on the Creators Forum. These resources support both newcomers and experienced builders in bringing their vision to life.
Prizes are divided into several categories. The top 5 winners will receive SAND tokens, LAND parcels, and Catalyst Packs to upgrade in-game assets.
First place wins 18,000 SAND, a 1x1 LAND, and a Gold Catalyst Pack. Second and third places receive 14,000 and 10,000 SAND, plus LAND and Silver Catalyst Packs. Prizes go down to 10th place. Honorable Mentions get 2,000 SAND and a 1x1 LAND each.
The first 100 valid entries that follow the event rules get 100 SAND as a participation reward.
There is also an IP Special Prize. Games featuring the Smurfs may be selected to appear in the official Smurfs LAND in The Sandbox. Those chosen will get an extra 2,000 SAND per published game.
Judges will look at creativity, level design, gameplay, playability, and a “wow factor.” Games must be made after the event starts and use Game Maker 0.12. Each game must fit within a single 1x1 LAND.
Only the highest-ranking entry from each creator will be eligible for prizes. Winners must complete KYC verification to claim rewards. Games must follow IP guidelines and feature only one brand—either Smurfs or Teletubbies. The IP owners can approve or reject any use of their content.
Game Maker 0.12: New Features
This event follows the release of Game Maker 0.12, which brings better gameplay and building tools. The update adds a new multiplayer system, improved avatar moves, advanced NPC logic, and a better user interface.
The new matchmaking system lets creators set custom player limits and create lobbies for players to chat and wait together. Players can join games from multiple points or connect directly through the Friends Tab. Quick Play sends players into ready sessions without waiting in lobbies.
Game Maker 0.12 also introduces persistent data, allowing games to save player progress between sessions. Players can return to find their scores, items, or currency just as they left them.

Two new avatar moves—Dash and Glide—are now available. Dash gives a short, fast burst forward, even in midair. Glide lets players float down from heights. These add more variety for action and platforming games.
NPCs are now smarter. Builders can create characters that follow players, heal them, collect items, or run from danger. These features work in multiplayer and do not slow performance.
The Game Maker interface is now simpler, with clear sections for Assets, Terrain, and Gameplay. A new HUD editor lets creators design health bars, timers, and color-coded stats in real time.
The audio engine now uses Wwise, a tool for high-quality sound. It supports spatial effects, dynamic mixing, and more than 2,500 ready-to-use tracks. Visual effects include improved water reflections, foam, and lighting.
Players will also see color outlines for items they can pick up or interact with. A built-in bug reporting tool is now part of the platform.
The Little Lands Game Jam shows how The Sandbox continues to welcome creative minds. With famous characters, improved building tools, and no coding needed, anyone can make polished games with depth.
Registration closes August 19. Games are due September 3. Winners will be revealed September 20 during the live Twitch show.
