The crypto world has long been plagued by hacks, yet investors remain surprisingly careless. Even after being hacked once, many continue the same dangerous habits that make them vulnerable. We surveyed over 1100 crypto investors to reveal just how widespread and persistent these risky behaviors are.

Key Findings

  • 80% of crypto investors have been hacked at least once.
  • 36% of investors continue repeating the same habits that led to them being hacked.
  • 64% of crypto investors keep using hack-prone habits even after experiencing a hack.

A staggering 80% of crypto investors have experienced at least one hack. This highlights how common breaches are in the industry, underscoring weak security practices among everyday users.

Shockingly, 36% of investors still keep doing the same habits that directly led to them being hacked. Even worse, 64% of all crypto investors continue using hack-prone habits after a breach, showing that many fail to learn from experience.

The most common careless behaviors that put investors at risk:

• Failing to double-check links – 11% of hacked investors still keep neglecting phishing attempts.

• Taking screenshots of wallet seed phrases or private keys – 9% admit to storing their most sensitive data as images.

• Saving private keys/seed phrases in cloud services – 7% risk exposure by keeping them on easily compromised platforms.

Why It Matters

Despite constant warnings and repeated hacks across the industry, crypto users are failing to adapt. The persistence of these habits points to complacency and convenience winning over security. Just like investors who chase hype without research, crypto holders are prioritizing shortcuts that could cost them their entire portfolios.

The takeaway is clear: unless investors break these habits, hacks will remain an unavoidable part of the crypto landscape. Education and awareness are critical — but without behavioral change, history will keep repeating itself.
