Star Atlas is a next-generation gaming metaverse that combines the latest in blockchain technology, real-time graphics, multiplayer video games, and decentralized finance. Set in the year 2620, players in the massively multiplayer online (MMO) space game can explore a colonized and divided universe, earning in-game currency and purchasing items such as ships and space stations. The game utilizes the Solana blockchain, allowing players to truly own the items they earn, gather, craft, or purchase in the game.
There are two main crypto tokens in the game: $ATLAS, an in-game currency that can be earned through activities such as mining and selling ore, and $POLIS, which allows players to participate in the political aspects of the game and make governance decisions through corporations, guilds, and regional decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).
The 3 Major Factions in Star Atlas
In the game, the universe is controlled by three major factions: the human MUD Territory, the alien ONI Region, and the robotic Ustur Sector. These factions are constantly vying for resources, territory, and political domination. Players can choose which faction they want to belong to and work to become influential members with the power to shape the outcome of the ongoing war.
The game features a variety of pillars, including mining, exploration, combat, station construction, professions, economics, guilds, politics, and player-generated content. The game’s developers are also implementing features such as insurance, lending, and staking to create a real economy within the game.
The Automata team, which now includes over 200 people, is using Unreal Engine 5 to develop the main game. Currently, there are three areas available: Dogfight, Race, and Showroom.
Spaceport Area in Star Atlas
In Dogfight and Race, players can pilot the Pearce X4, a small but space-worthy single-passenger “space bike.” Dogfight involves facing off against waves of enemy ships, with each wave becoming more powerful. The scoring system appears to be based on damage dealt, with a bonus of 1000 points for each ship destroyed.
In Race, players navigate through gates and can shoot targets to reduce their total time. It’s even possible to achieve a negative time by hitting all the targets and posting a good run.
The Showroom is a large spaceport where players can see models of various ships and test-drive the Floyd Line Aerospace One. Players can also summon their non-fungible token (NFT) ships and fly around a half-crater on the edge of an asteroid.
The playable demo is expected to release in 2023, offering players a unique and immersive space flight simulation experience. With an array of impressive spaceships available on the game’s marketplace and the potential for epic faction space battles, Star Atlas is sure to be a hit with players.
