Goblintown Unveils New Game Trailer

A trailer for Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game, an Ethereum NFT project, has been released in response to recent teasers. Both Mac and PC versions of the game will be accessible. Both the Epic Games Store and Steam will carry the game. This represents a significant milestone for the franchise, extending its world into games and beyond NFTs.

The trailer features the well-known Goblintown Burger Truck in an endless runner format. The game has a similar style to popular titles like Temple Run and Dookey Dash, the sewer-based game tied to the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Players must navigate tricky terrain, avoid obstacles, and maintain control of the truck in an increasingly difficult driving experience.

The trailer emphasizes the game's difficulty. The end credits even joke about how tough it is, stating, "It’s really hard, by the way, honestly, it’s incredibly hard. When my mom played, she immediately drove off the side and crashed because it’s so hard." The game is designed to be frustratingly fun, encouraging players to keep trying and improve their skills over time.

Despite Goblintown’s Web3 origins, the game will not include any crypto or NFT elements. The Epic Games Store allows blockchain-based games, but Steam banned them in October 2021. Some developers have found ways around this restriction, but Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game will remain a traditional Web2 game. This approach makes it more accessible to a wider audience.

Alexander Taub, co-founder and CEO of Truth Labs, confirmed the game will focus solely on Web2 mechanics. “The game is a straight Web2 game using our IP and world,” he said. The team wants to ensure a seamless gaming experience without the complications of crypto-related integrations.

The game is expected to launch in 60-90 days. More details will come closer to release, including how Goblintown will connect to Abstract, an Ethereum layer-2 network launched by Pudgy Penguins’ parent company, Igloo Inc. Taub mentioned that Abstract has a strong focus on streaming. He believes Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game will be one of the most entertaining games to stream in 2025. With its chaotic, high-energy gameplay, it could attract streamers looking for engaging content.

Goblintown's History on Steam

Goblintown is not new to Steam. In 2023, its imagery was featured in the popular game Only Up. The developer used the artwork legally since it was released under a Creative Commons 0 (CC0) license. However, the developer, known as Indiesolodev, later removed the game from Steam. They explained that the project caused them significant stress and that they wanted to move on from it. The decision to step away from game development highlights the pressures that indie developers often face.

Following the announcement of Really Hard Driving Game, the original Goblintown NFT collection saw a nearly 20% increase in value within 24 hours, reaching $573, according to NFT Price Floor. The excitement around the game’s launch appears to have reignited interest in the project’s NFT roots. This increase suggests that fans still see value in the Goblintown brand beyond the game itself.
