Faraway Introduces Rebel Skies and Villains: Fresh Web3 Mobile Gaming Experiences

Faraway, a well-known US-based game developer, has announced major expansions to its gaming portfolio. This includes the upcoming mobile game Rebel Skies and a strategic partnership that introduces web3 elements to Villains: Robot Battle Royale. This move further strengthens Faraway's role in integrating blockchain technology into mainstream gaming.

Faraway's Web3 IPs

Backed by top investors like Lightspeed, Sequoia, and a16z, Faraway has been making a mark in the blockchain gaming world. The company launched browser-based FPS Mini Royale: Nations and the mutant-themed city-builder Serum City, alongside its creator platform, the Faraway Shop. Most recently, Faraway acquired HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara from Yuga Labs. This acquisition showcases Faraway’s dedication to web3 game development, following their earlier collaboration with Yuga Labs on projects like Dookey Dash Unclogged.

Rebel Skies: A New Action RTS

Rebel Skies, the latest addition to Faraway's lineup, is an action real-time strategy (RTS) game with deck-building mechanics. Often compared to Clash Royale, Rebel Skies stands out by using landscape mode for gameplay. Rebel Skies is currently in its early alpha phase and is scheduled to launch globally in October 2024. Upon its release, the game will also introduce web3 elements, allowing players to interact with blockchain-based assets, including those from the HV-MTL IP.

The 30,000 mechs in HV-MTL are powered by eight distinct kinds of power sources. These mechs were initially created by Yuga Labs as part of the on-chain game HV-MTL Forge. The game evolved from a pet simulation and world builder to a competitive dungeon crawler, allowing players to upgrade their mechs through multiple seasons, enhancing their abilities. Integrating these mechs into various IPs in the Faraway portfolio will add depth to the arena shooter experience.

In addition to Rebel Skies, Faraway has teamed up with South Korean mobile game developer Birdletter to bring web3 technology to the mobile game Villains: Robot Battle Royale. This partnership will focus on integrating blockchain elements, specifically incorporating Legends of the Mara and HV-MTL assets into the game. Villains is currently in open beta, and its web3 features are expected to launch alongside the game’s global release.
