Hackathon Opens for Casual Degen Builders
Yield Guild Games has launched a new hackathon through its publishing arm, YGG Play. The event runs under Korea BuidlWeek’s BuidlHack 2026, which gathers web3 and AI developers across the region. Submissions are now open, with a clear focus on building Casual Degen games.
The competition invites both crypto game developers and AI builders to participate. Entries remain open until April 17, giving teams a limited window to prototype and submit playable titles. The structure reflects a growing trend of fast-paced development cycles in crypto gaming.
More Than a Standard Prize Pool
Although the overall prize pool is $5,000, the true worth goes beyond monetary gains. YGG Play’s publishing pipeline, which supports projects from early concept to token launch, is available to certain teams. This makes it easier for small teams to transform ideas into working products.
With its AI-powered development tools, co-organizer Verse8 provides an additional layer of assistance. These technologies facilitate the rapid development of functional games by cutting down on production time and removing technological obstacles. Therefore, the hackathon serves as a launch opportunity as well as a competition.
Deep token systems are combined with straightforward gameplay in the Casual Degen category. These games include robust economic cycles made for cryptocurrency users, yet they are also simple to play and less expensive to create. Instead of concentrating on typical gamers, this strategy targets native cryptocurrency audiences.
Prior play-to-earn initiatives suffered from exorbitant expenses and unsustainable rewards, which led to the creation of the concept. Smaller costs and accessible token models, which enable communities to participate early and expand with each project, are now preferred by developers. The creation and release of cryptocurrency games has changed as a result of this change.

YGG Play’s Publishing Strategy
Yield Guild Games’ publishing subsidiary, YGG Play, debuted in May 2025. The platform’s emphasis is on lighthearted cryptocurrency games that correspond with player activity in the area. Before it was released, more than 100,000 people pre-registered for its first game, LOL Land.
The game has several play modes, themed boards, and NFT collectibles. The fact that it brought in over $4.5 million proved that there was a market for this kind of entertainment. This achievement contributed to the Casual Degen model’s acceptance as a feasible path for cryptocurrency gaming.
Expanding Through Launchpad and Partnerships
With the launch of its Launchpad in October 2025, YGG Play kept expanding. Users of the platform can find new games, finish tasks, and receive prizes like YGG Points. Token staking increases community participation by giving players early access to future launches.
There have been subsequent expansions and collaborations, such as Roach Racing Club and alliances linked to broader ecosystems. These actions demonstrate how YGG Play is assisting independent developers while expanding its publishing network.
Verse8 plays a key role in enabling rapid development during the hackathon. Built by Planetarium Labs, the platform allows users to create games through simple text prompts. No downloads or installations are required, which lowers the barrier for entry.
At the center of the system is Agent 8, an AI tool that can generate code, assets, and gameplay systems. The platform also supports advanced features such as 3D content, music generation, and real-time publishing. This setup allows creators to move from concept to playable game in a short time.

Submissions close on April 17, marking the end of the development window. Selected teams may move forward with publishing deals or investment opportunities. This outcome can turn a short-term project into a long-term crypto game.
The hackathon shows how AI and crypto continue to merge in game development. Faster tools and focused publishing models are shaping the next wave of projects. As a result, small teams now have a clearer path to launching games in the crypto space.
