The gaming space is still settling deep into the open world of Subnautica 2 since its Early Access on May 14. Subnautica 2 has rapidly sold over 18.5 million copies across all platforms. It also smashed records with over 467,000 peak concurrent players on Steam.
Fans are loving the alien ocean, but the developers are not resting yet. While there’s still much of the deep sea world to explore, Unknown Worlds just dropped major news about what is coming next.
The upcoming Early Access 1.1 update promises to push your survival instincts to the absolute limit. Prepare yourself. Unknown Worlds has teased that Planet 4546B is about to get a whole lot scarier.

The biggest highlight of the upcoming 1.1 patch is a brand-new region. Design lead Anthony Gallegos teased that this biome will be heavily driven by story and progression. It is not just a place to collect new resources.
It is built around a terrifying new alpha predator: the Collector Leviathan. Gallegos openly admitted that this region is designed to test your nerve. In a recent developer update, he noted that this will likely be the scariest the game has ever been.

Players will have to navigate dark, tight spaces while avoiding a massive beast that wants to add them to its collection. New creatures and unique environmental hazards will fill the zone, ensuring that danger lurks around every single corner.

Get Ready to Get Stompy
Exploring a terrifying new abyss requires the right gear. Thankfully, the developers are bringing back a massive fan-favorite feature. Gallegos teased a brand-new chassis that directly answers one of the community’s biggest requests.
He told fans to “get ready to get stompy.” This heavily implies the triumphant return of the Prawn Suit—the iconic bipedal mechanical walker from the original games.
Walking across the ocean floor in a heavy mech suit will provide a much-needed layer of defense against the horrors of the new region. Best of all, you will not need to restart your game. The update is built to let you load your current save file and jump straight into the action.

Quality of Life and the Pacifism Debate
Before the massive 1.1 content drop, players can look forward to smaller patches aimed at tweaking the core gameplay. Unknown Worlds plans to expand the limited Biomods system. They will add more passive slots to deepen your early-game survival options.
The studio is also upgrading the multiplayer experience. Due to the massive popularity of co-op play, the team is quickly adding proximity voice chat, expressive character emotes, and richer character customization options.
The developers also addressed the raging community debate regarding predator combat. A recent hotfix tweaked creature behavior because players complained they could not kill predators. Gallegos cleared up rumors, stating the team never intended to make a pure “pacifism game.”
However, the studio reiterated that you still cannot directly slaughter the giant fish. Instead, they are adding better “mitigation” tools so you can defend your territory and scare threats away without turning the ocean into a bloodbath. The ocean depths are calling, and they are hungrier than ever. Keep your flashlights charged and your oxygen tanks full.
