Splinterlands, an NFT card game, has announced its plans to introduce a new energy system, replacing the current Energy Capture Rate (ECR) system. The change is set to fundamentally change its gameplay and will be released on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023. The Splinterlands team states that the new system will be far simpler and easier to use for players.

Why did they replace it and how will this affect gameplay? According to the development team, the redesign was suggested by the community over recent months. Over time, the team eventually agreed that the proposed system was far easier to grasp, especially for newer players.

What are the Changes?

The new energy system will bring fundamental changes to how energy works and how to purchase it.

Starting with the Energy feature, each account will now have a maximum pool of 50 Energy and will automatically regenerate every hour.

Ranked Battles will cost 1 Energy and if a player doesn’t have energy left, they will not be able to join unless they purchase more or wait until it regenerates.

Players who want to purchase energy can only purchase only up to 50 additional energy per day, limiting the amount of time players can play in a single day which is only up to 100 battles.

The game UI has also been updated to clearly show how much Energy is available, so players can easily see it before they battle and access the options to read more information about the Energy system or purchase more Energy if desired.

Additionally, the cost of Energies will be based on the player’s current league. This will ensure that battles will be costly depending on your skill level.

The new energy system allows players to play up to 24 battles a day before they need more energy. The Splinterlands team looks forward to lessened confusion on how ECR works and its features. The team believes that this new system will be a positive change for both new and experienced players alike.

Final Thoughts

Some updates are small while certain updates fundamentally shift how the game is played. Splinterland’s latest update contains in-game benefits for all players but includes prominent shifts to how players will approach energy consumption and conservation.

Overall, the upcoming energy system update in Splinterlands aims to streamline the gameplay experience and eliminate confusion for many players, especially beginners.
