Space Nation, a growing transmedia franchise, has soft launched its new MMORPG, Space Nation Online. The developers see this game, built on blockchain technology, as the central piece of their expanding sci-fi intellectual property (IP). Their goal is to reach the heights of franchises like Star Wars. The soft launch phase will last 12 weeks, limiting player access and ensuring the in-game economy is stable before opening the game to a broader audience.

The game is built on the Ethereum scaling network, Immutable zkEVM. Once the soft launch period ends, Space Nation Online will target a global release. The co-founder and CEO, Jerome Wu, previously worked at Blizzard Entertainment, where he managed World of Warcraft’s operations in China. Wu saw where the game excelled and identified areas for improvement. In Space Nation Online, monotonous tasks like resource gathering will offer high rewards, while fun tasks will have lower returns. Players can focus on either gameplay style, earning in-game currency that can be exchanged for fiat money.

Players can take on various roles in Space Nation Online, choosing what fits their play style best. Some may enjoy leading a guild, while others prefer resource gathering and earning through the game’s play-to-earn system. For example, miners can gather materials and sell them to other players who need resources for building ships and weapons. This division of labor allows players to choose how they want to engage with the game’s virtual economy.

The team behind Space Nation Online hopes to build a virtual economy worth billions, similar to other popular MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. Wu believes that incorporating crypto elements will make the game’s economy more efficient. Although the team is primarily focused on the MMORPG, Space Nation’s universe will expand beyond the game.Game character Zoey is the subject of animated shorts that have previously been made available. Aside from that, Roland Emmerich, the screenwriter for a TV prequel and the director of films such as "Independence Day" and "Stargate," is penning a script. The science fiction genre will see Space Nation become well-known as a result of this intersection of entertainment and gaming.
