Waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI is starting to be like a marathon with no finish at this stage. Rockstar has already verified delays, and as a few other rumors are casting doubts on more of them being on the way, the wait game is already becoming tiresome.

As we wait for the big release of the year, gamers are already looking for alternatives. This is where Samson: A Tyndalston Story comes into the picture. Many are calling it the best alternative to GTA VI before we eventually get GTA VI.

Samson: A Tyndalston Story Set for Launch

Created by Liquid Swords, Samson: A Tyndalston Story drifts into a more formal, high-pressure game structure. When Liquid Swords released the trailer, the company affirmed that the game will go live on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The release of the $25 game will be done through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

On the surface, Samson ticks all the right boxes of a Grand Theft Auto remake. There is a crime-infested city, there is a road chase, there is street violence, and there is a character who is attempting to survive in a hostile world but without guns. But this is not just another crack at the GTA formula.

Why This One Feels Different

Samson: A Tyndalston Story drifts in a more formal, high-pressure game structure. You are in control of Samson McCray, a man who is deeply in debt and must resort to returning to a perilous city where no action goes unpunished.

What distinguishes it is its time-based progression system. Samson must pay off mobsters after a heist goes badly, and his sister is being held for collateral. Players have a payment quota to meet or the debt interest grows, adding a sense of urgency to the game.

As opposed to going out and wandering without any sense of penalty, players are on a time clock. Every action takes resources, and bad judgments can easily lead to larger ones. It is not so much about long-term exploration as survival is calculated.

Built To Complement GTA, Not to Compete With

The mindset of the developers is one of the most refreshing facts about Samson. They are not out to create a GTA VI killer. They even said so openly: this is not a competing experience; it is a companion experience.

The idea is simple. Grand Theft Auto VI is bound to be a huge game that overshadows a lot of other titles. However, not all players necessarily desire that scale.

There are times when you feel like something snugger. Something more focused. Something that can be picked up, played hard, and put aside. It is the position that Samson wants to fill.

How It Scratches the GTA Itch

It is taking forever for GTA VI to be released. There’s even an internet meme highlighting how long the game’s taking. As a result, there’s a growing number of players anticipating the freedom, chaos, and storytelling that GTA tells better than most other games.

Samson: A Tyndalston Story does not attempt to replicate the GTA formula. Rather, it condenses it. You still get a reactive open-world environment, high-stakes car chases, escalating police pressure, and a down-to-earth, character-profiled story.

Warfare is more personal and crueler and employs close-range fights rather than mass gunfights of GTA. Guns are not that widespread, and it changes the game. Samson goes for realistic and brutal fights instead of the over-the-top madness of GTA. What is left is a familiar experience, but much more personal.

Samson: The Right Game at the Right Time?

Grand Theft Auto VI will undoubtedly be one of the largest of the decade. Once it arrives, it will take up conversations and time of players, possibly for months. There is, however, a gap before it launches. And it is a big one.

Players are seeking something that will fill in that wait. It does not necessarily have to replace it, but it is an experience that takes some of that energy without demanding the same commitment. Samson fits in that very need. This is why there is so much hype around its April 8 release.
