New Age-Based Accounts Launch
Roblox will introduce two new account types designed for younger audiences, with rollout expected in early June. Roblox Kids will serve users aged 5 to 8, while Roblox Select will cover ages 9 to 15. These categories connect content access, communication settings, and parental controls more closely to a user’s age. The change reflects a clearer structure for how younger users experience the platform.
The update brings several safety systems into one framework, including age checks, content ratings, and moderation tools. This structure also includes account-level defaults and expanded parental controls. Younger users will gain access to a wide range of games that meet safety standards at launch. Users aged 16 and above will not see any changes to their experience.
Roblox Kids Accounts Features
Roblox Kids accounts will apply to users aged 5 to 8 based on age verification or parental confirmation. These accounts will connect to a curated catalog that updates over time with thousands of approved games. Access will remain limited to games labeled Minimal or Mild in content maturity. Communication features will stay disabled by default to reduce risk.
The design will also include a unique visual style, making it easier to identify this account type. This helps both users and parents recognize the level of restrictions applied. The overall experience focuses on simplicity and safety, with stricter limits on interaction and content exposure.
Roblox Select Accounts Features
Roblox Select accounts will apply to users aged 9 to 15 and will also rely on age verification systems. These accounts will provide access to a broader catalog compared to Roblox Kids. Games with content ratings up to Moderate will be available, as long as they pass additional evaluation steps.
Communication settings for this group will stay consistent with current defaults. The platform will include visual indicators to distinguish this account type from others. This setup allows more flexibility while still maintaining strong content control.
The system will automatically move users between account types as they grow older. Users will shift from Roblox Kids to Roblox Select at age 9, then to a standard account at age 16. This process does not require manual updates once age verification is complete.
Users without age verification will face stricter limits. They will only access Minimal or Mild content, and communication features will remain disabled. After completing age checks, the system will adjust their account to match their correct category.

Continuous Game Evaluation Process
Roblox will apply an ongoing evaluation process for games available to users under 16. Existing moderation systems will still review all uploaded content, including AI scanning and real-time monitoring. User reports will also play a role in maintaining content quality.
An additional layer of review will focus on younger audiences. This includes developer verification, extended content checks, and stricter limits on certain game types. The goal is to ensure that only suitable content reaches younger players.
Games included in Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts must meet specific criteria. Developers need to complete identity verification and enable two-step security. They must also maintain an active subscription within the platform’s ecosystem.
In order to make judgments, the platform will track how older users engage with new games. Access levels will be determined by content classifications like Minimal, Mild, and Moderate. By default, some categories—such as unstructured creative areas and social hangouts—will continue to be omitted.

Transition to Global Rating Standards
Later this year, Roblox intends to transition to the International Age Rating Coalition framework. This system complies with international standards for apps and video games. Cultural differences will be reflected in regional rating systems such as PEGI and ESRB.
Families will receive more precise information thanks to these ratings. Additionally, they will improve adherence to regional laws in various marketplaces. This action encourages a more uniform and open method of classifying content.
More thorough parental control features are included in the upgrade. Screen time, communication settings, and content access will be easier for parents to control. Additionally, they will be able to observe the games their kids play and the people they engage with on the site.
The ability to accept limited games and block particular ones is one of the new features. Up until the age of 15, parents will still have control over chat settings. Without taking away elder users’ flexibility, these solutions offer more accurate oversight.
Focus on Safer Digital Experiences
This upgrade is part of a larger initiative to increase platform safety. Age-appropriate activities are given priority, and exposure to inappropriate content is decreased. Additionally, it encourages active participation as opposed to passive use.
Roblox keeps funding security measures like content moderation and proactive filtering. The foundation of this strategy is more robust parental controls and clear ratings. The platform presents these changes as a component of a long-term plan that prioritizes user welfare.
