What To Expect From State of Play

Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games has been confirmed by Sony to be the opener of the event. This console-exclusive launch date is set for September 15, 2026. State of Play will feature deep dive gameplay on Marvel’s Wolverine.
You can look forward to longer fights featuring Logan’s iconic adamantium claws, story snippets, and more. Now that preorders have been temporarily suspended, awaiting this reveal, this gameplay is anticipated to open the doors for the fall release.
First-Party Surprises and changing Exclusivity
The 60 minutes allow for plenty of Sony announcements besides the clawed mutant. Rumors are flying around Naughty Dog’s sci-fi project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, as well as speculation regarding updates to Haven Studios’ FairGame.
Also, fans are expecting to see their first look at Guerrilla Games’ popular universe with the expansion of Horizon Hunters Gathering. Reports suggest that Sony looks to double down on hardware loyalty by keeping its flagship, single-player-type cinematic games fully PlayStation exclusive.

Third Party Showcases
The presentation will not be all about Sony studios. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could be among the games. With its August 6 release date right around the corner, a new trailer or character reveal at State of Play would perfectly set up its launch.
Why The PlayStation State of Play Matters
The showcase will come amid one of the biggest slates of gaming news in June. Since E3 has ceased to exist, summer events are now the main way in which publishers can announce their future plans. During this time Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and third-party publishers all vie for the spotlight.
With PlayStation in particular, the June State of Play might determine the future of the second half of the PS5 cycle. With big exclusives and current PS5 sales, the company is already on a strong footing as it embarks on the end of 2026. If the Wolverine and other blockbuster reveals are successful at the conference, then Sony’s console sales could rise even further.
