Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. Mojang confirmed the release date alongside the news that Vibrant Visuals ship enabled by default on the new hardware. Existing Switch owners also get a digital upgrade path to the Switch 2 version.
Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date
The biggest difference between the original Switch version and the Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 version is the visuals. Vibrant Visuals โ which players on other platforms need to manually enable โ ship as the default graphics setting on Switch 2. That means richer lighting, realistic shadows, water reflections, and atmospheric effects right out of the box without any settings adjustment needed.
The original Switch version ran on ageing hardware with real visual limitations. Switch 2 removes those. Players who have spent years on the original version will notice the difference immediately on October 27.

Players who own Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch get a digital upgrade path to the Switch 2 version. Mojang confirmed this alongside the launch date. Exact pricing for the upgrade has not been revealed yet โ that detail is expected to surface closer to October 27.
The upgrade path only applies to digital copies. Physical copy holders have not been confirmed for the same path, and Mojang has not addressed that specifically in the announcement.
Super Mario Mash-Up Pack Gets an Upgrade Too
The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack โ a Nintendo-exclusive content bundle inside Minecraft โ gets an upgraded version for Switch 2. The Mushroom Kingdom-inspired locations in the pack now run with the improved graphical effects that come with Vibrant Visuals. Players who enjoyed the original pack on Switch can revisit it with noticeably better visuals on the new hardware.
The pack is a Nintendo-exclusive and does not appear on any other Minecraft platform. Switch 2 owners get the updated version included with the game.
Two limitations come with the Vibrant Visuals implementation on Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2. First, Vibrant Visuals are disabled in split-screen play. Co-op sessions with multiple players on one screen revert to standard visuals. Second, some Marketplace content continues using standard visual settings regardless of the hardware running it.
Neither limitation changes the single-player experience. Most Minecraft sessions happen in solo play and the full visual upgrade applies there without any restrictions.
Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls Still Unknown
One detail Mojang has not addressed is how Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 handles the Joy-Con 2’s mouse-enabled controls. The Switch 2’s new controllers support mouse-style input, which could significantly change how building works in Minecraft on a handheld device. No announcement on that feature has come alongside the October 27 date confirmation.
Pricing details beyond the base game also remain unconfirmed. The upgrade path cost and any bundle pricing for new Switch 2 owners who do not already own Minecraft are still unknown heading into the October launch window.
Final Thoughts
October 27 is the date. Vibrant Visuals on by default. Super Mario Mash-Up Pack upgraded. Digital upgrade path for existing Switch owners. Split-screen reverts to standard visuals and some Marketplace content stays on standard settings. Joy-Con 2 mouse support and upgrade pricing are still missing from the announcement โ expect those closer to launch.
