Hytopia, a web3 game and creator platform, recently surprised the gaming community by announcing the migration of its L2 Hytopia Chain from Polygon to Arbitrum. This move comes after two years of development and a rebranding effort from the platform previously known as NFT Worlds, which successfully launched its mainnet on Polygon in October 2023.

Decision-Making Process

In an exclusive interview with BlockchainGamer.biz, ArkDev, the team behind Hytopia, revealed the driving factors behind the decision to migrate. The discontinuation of support for Polygon Edge software by Polygon, the platform’s initial choice, prompted Hytopia to seek alternatives. The team opted for Arbitrum due to its continued advancements in rollup technologies and the reliability of AnyTrust/Nitro stacks for powering L2/L3.

Arbitrum’s AnyTrust/Nitro technology brings significant improvements over Polygon Edge. Notably, it offers a remarkable 50% reduction in block times compared to Polygon, with block times ranging from 250ms to 500ms. The optimistic block production approach ensures that the chain state remains uncluttered, with blocks produced only when transactions require processing.

The migration to Arbitrum is expected to bring tangible benefits to both players and creators on the Hytopia platform. The AnyTrust stack enables further reduction in block times, resulting in actions tied to on-chain transactions processing at a perceived speed of over 50% faster than with Polygon’s technology. This enhancement is particularly crucial for a smooth gaming experience during scenarios involving numerous on-chain actions or frequent buying and selling transactions.

Hytopia’s 2024 Focus

Looking ahead to 2024, Hytopia has outlined two primary areas of focus. The first involves the launch and growth of the HYCHAIN ecosystem, where technologies developed over the past two years will be shared with partners, fostering frictionless web3 games. The second area centers on the launch of HYTOPIA, a creator platform combining elements of Roblox and Minecraft with blockchain powering the underlying economy. Over 3,000 content creators and developers from the Minecraft ecosystem are ready to contribute, with more than 1,100,000 pre-registered players awaiting the beta.

The migration aims not only to provide faster and gasless transactions but also to facilitate smoother interoperability of player assets and establish an Ethereum-Hytopia bridge. Additionally, the integration of Hytopia’s web3 infrastructure solution, MetaFab, is set to expedite game launches on the Hytopia Chain. As part of the restructuring, the company plans to separate its games division from the game development team, ushering in a new phase with distinct funds for each entity.
