Epic Games officially revealed the Fortnite Surf City Remix map for Reload mode on September 23, 2026. It drops September 24. Two POIs are out. Two new ones are in. The changes came directly from community criticism of the original Surf City layout.

What Changed on the Fortnite Surf City Remix Map

Epic teased the changes across two posts. The September 22 teaser was a side-by-side comparison with the caption “Don’t ask any questions, spot the difference.” The September 23 follow-up made it official: “Say hi to Surf City Remix in Reload tomorrow! Mountain is out. Squibbly Shores and Heatwave Harbor are in.”

Two POIs got replaced. Divey Dam — the hydroelectric dam on the northeastern part of the island — is gone. Heatwave Harbor takes its place. Breaker Beach also got a full makeover and a new name: Squibbly Shores. Both new POIs pull visual references from the Chapter 7 Season 4 map.

The Ferris wheel at Sweaty Shores is still there. The water tank overlooking Sus Studios is still in place. Most of the island’s structure stayed intact — Epic targeted specific problem areas rather than rebuilding the whole map. The two replaced POIs were the ones that took the most criticism from the community after the original Surf City map launched in Reload.

Fortnite Surf City Remix Map vs Springfield Reload Map

The Springfield Reload map is still in rotation alongside Surf City Remix. Springfield has a strong following — the Simpsons collab and the fan response to that map set a high bar. Some players are not happy about Surf City getting another chance when Springfield is available.

One community member said it plainly on X: “They still don’t get it: we want Re-fill maps like Adventure, Slurp, or Oasis — maps inspired by Chapters 1 and 2. We don’t want new maps that fail to grab attention.” That reaction reflects a split in what the Reload community actually wants from the mode going forward.

FNCS 2026 Global Championship is coming up and some players are speculating the Surf City Remix map could factor into the competitive rotation. Epic has not confirmed anything about which maps feature at Globals. Releasing a reworked Fortnite Reload map right before a major competitive event is unusual timing if it has no role in the tournament — but Epic has not addressed that directly.

Community Reaction to Fortnite Surf City Remix Map

The reception is mixed. Players who pushed for changes to the original Surf City map are cautiously open to the remix. Players who preferred Springfield staying as the sole Reload option are less enthusiastic. The Reload playerbase has strong opinions about which maps feel right for the mode — and Surf City has always been a divisive one.

Whether the Surf City Remix map holds player attention alongside Springfield depends on how the updated POIs play in actual matches. The changes look good on the teaser images. Whether they fix the core issues players had with the original layout gets answered when the map goes live September 24.

Final Thoughts

Fortnite Surf City Remix map hits Reload September 24. Heatwave Harbor replaces Divey Dam. Squibbly Shores replaces Breaker Beach. Springfield stays in rotation. Community reaction is split. FNCS Globals timing has some players wondering if the map plays a competitive role. All of that gets clearer once the update drops.
